I often start from 2nd gear when driving in manual as well... However I find there to be an annoying delay between when I stop at a stop sign (or other short stop period) and when it will let me shift to 2nd. |

This issue is definitely not related to the engine because I had the exact same issue with my 2007 X3. There were several service bulitens and I had it reprogrammed twice before I finally gave up. It was a 6 speed automatic transmission and the 3.0 NA engine. I used to start it in sports mode to get around the delayed response which would react exactly like everyone else on this thread has stated. I think it is just programming issues as they can't seem to get it right. I have a 335i 6 speed manual and there is zero lag and it has the HPFP. It has to be programming to maximize full economy.

One can change run-flats to normal tyres as part of routine servicing but the latest generation of run-flats are much better comfort wise. |

I have recently upgraded the software on my 2011 X3 28i - 6 cyl.
The software eliminate the acceleration delay when drving at low speeds. BMW Canada software P/N. 50183168 from PUMA. Ask for software upgrade is free at dealer. This will improve the gear response. |
