Drivetrain Error this morning

As I pulled into work this morning the car gonged away and told me there was a problem with my drivetrain, and that performance would be reduced and to drive slowly and go to service.

Anyone seen this before?

I had this problem about 1 month ago. Started car and had that message so I turned it off and turned it back on and it was gone. Took it to the dealer and found out a sensor in the air inlet was broken. They said this was a common problem. I would suggest to bring it in for a check.

Well I went to have a play, started it up and within minutes it was spluttering and stalled, then it said START/STOP Failure.

I started it again, and put it into N, and when it started to splutter again I feathered the pedal, and it tried to rev, then suddenly it was like something cleared and the car revved freely again. So I took the advantage to leave the car park in case.

Started it again, and again and again, and it was fine. Not had a problem since, although the START/STOP no longer seems to work.

Its due a service in 1200 miles, so I will book it in next week as there is a whole list of things they need to look at..

Has anyone been in for a service and theyve updated the firmware across the car? My list of issues so far is kinda small..

DriveTrain
Steering Rack Issues
Suspension Clunking
Noise under windscreen (ok with the DIY sponge stuffed in there)
Squeaky Drivers Seat
Windows Up/Down painfully slow and sometimes Anti Trap Failure message

Sorry to hear about all the issues you have. I can comment on the squeaky driver seat. I brought the car back twice and finally the 2nd time they took the seat apart and put silicone or something in there. The seat is good now. Again this is a common problem.

Thanks.. they are not major issues and they don't really make me hate the car, they are simple things that I've lived with for over a year.. I still think its a great car and I am pleased with it.

Actually the most annoying thing for me, is the music collection is displayed by album names and not artist.. totally crap.

I got my firmware updated but I had to fight for it. They won't just do it for free as it's a lengthy process. I was owed by them for a foul up during the sales process so used this as a bargaining chip

The Music Collection was clearly designed by someone who never listens to any music, or someone who only owns a gramophone.

My favourite features are playing album songs in alphabetical not track order, and the need to "Start Playback" after you select an album or song (like you might have selected it for some other reason)

I have a 2013 x3 with under 2000 miles. I have had this happen 3 times. After the first two, took to dealer and after a week they could not figure out or recreate. So the dealer assumed this was a freak. Now just happened again after parking outside in cold weather. As before, the car is shaking and says to be driven cautiously.

Is this thing a lemon? I really don't trust the car when it is cold and I live in MN.

Drivetrain malfunction issue

I had a similar problem during a cold week in Montreal. The dealer replaced a faulty relay switch. It took over a week but it fixed the problem.

He could not guarante that it would not happen again if the temperature falls again below -25 C...

Drivetrain Malfunction

Well... Here we go again. Cold weather is obviously not the issue. Got the drivetrain malfunction error in August and again this weekend.

After three visits to the dealer, I can safely say that software update is not the solution.

I am strating to think lemon.

And since we have no lemon law here....

Has anyone experienced something like that ?

Thank you.

An old thread but I experienced the drive train error yesterday during a 200 km trip through pretty heavy rain/sleeze at approx +4 deg C. Tried stopping and leaving the car alone for 10 min but the error msg persisted and I lost full power and had to drive at 70/80 kmh for the rest of the trip. This morning after a full night's rest the X3 was fine again. It's a May 2012 built 20D with 47000 km on it. I found the whole experience a little strange. Any suggestions?

The error reappeared last week. Took it to the dealer and a component in my turbo had to be replaced. All was done under warranty and now it's fine.

Unhappy

I also had this drivetrain malfunction error today. I'm in Chicago, and it's -14 F, so I'm hoping its just weather related. After turning the car on and off a few times, the error cleared, and the car started back up. Hoping it was just a cold weather glitch, but we'll see.

It happened to me twice. The only thing I can think was that when I started the car, I pushed it in reverse to quickly. It never happened again. I make a point of it not to engage reverse to quickly....

I didn't take mine in, but I did call my dealer. He said that if the battery is really cold, it can drop a few millivoltz and cause "electrical issues" like this. They see airbag lights and this drivetrain malfunction quite often in extreme cold weather. I haven't had any more problems with it since we had those -14F days last week. I'm hoping that's all it was.

X3 35i in jakarta here.

had drivetrain malfunction power reduced about 4 times already. the engine kinda just vibrates when you try to acclerate.

First two times i turned off the car and waited till all the lights went off and it was fine again when i started it.

Now it wont go away when i do that but when i park the car the next time i get in its fine again.

what sensor are you all replacing?

my seats also squeak all the time.. sent it in 3x for squeaky seats. (for those people who have squeaky seats are ur seats positioned all the way back?)
