2015 BMW X3 diesel issues...
My x3 crapped out on me two weeks ago and Bmw doesn't know what to do. My service advisor said they opened a puma case. Just wondering what y'all think or have any of y'all have had this happen to you? I add the list of faults Bmw is dealing with.

I take it, it`s not BMW but your dealer who don`t know. In old times, BMW would have sent a service rep, who had sorted this out - at least they did with my old brand - I knew him - working all of the US. .
In this case, they could do what the Indians would have - change the engine computer. Are you serious - 60.000 km on a MY-2015? |

Yup brought her as a demo with 5k and my drive to the Hosptial I work at is 130 miles roughly round trip easy.
I don't if this help but it gave me the famous "drive train malfunction error" ...drive moderately. |

"Drive moderately" is unclear to me. Do you drive conservatively or aggressively? What highway speeds?

It sounds like it has gone into limp mode and all the errors point to a the MAF sensor.
Considering this is a 10 second swap to test it I can't believe they haven't even if they quickly grab one of a car on the lot for 5 minutes. |

This looks to me like the mass air sensor or the piping upstream of the mass air sensor is the issue. That would explain those fault codes plus basically all of the exhaust-related fault codes (oxygen sensor stuff, etc.).
This looks relatively simple to me to figure out and fix. |

*update
"There was a large amount of carbon build up do we are performing a walnut blast/carbon blast to clean it all out. The intakes have been sent out to be cleaned and should be back tomorrow. I expect if all goes well it will be all put back together by Monday. carbon build up is common in diesel vehicles and the blast is recommended every 30k. Outside of warranty the blast is expensive."
This is what they informed me this am. I find it strange cause I know someone with a 2011 335d and has never had this done before. |

Hmm. After reading the paper it looks like it was a typical EGR problem with soot build up causing the EGR valve/system to malfunction.
The interesting thing is that this problem usually occurs when you use the car for short trips only, but that doesn't seem to apply to you ;-) Not an uncommon problem it seems (scroll down this post) : http://www.bmwforums.info/general-gu...html#post14989 Last edited by Scandic24; 01-14-2016 at 09:23 AM.. |

No worries, just keep enjoying your car
Things happen here and there.. but if you feel like you're having too many issues (continue to complain, and try to contact BMWNA)

I do at least monthly 200 mile one way trips, 500 mile round trips, at 75mph. And even my trip to work is over 8 miles each way partially up to 70mph. So hopefully I keep it clean
Of course, I went diesel for the better fuel economy, and gas is now well under $2/gallon. So, right now, the only benefit I'm really seeing is the extended range between fill ups. History as a guide, fuel will go back up again while I own the car. If I had leased, I would have just got the gas engine. I plan to drive it well past the warranty period. |
