And the login account is definitely the same on Google Maps as it is using on the remote app? i.e. do you see the iPhone registered and active when you log in to BMW Assist? Might be worth deleting the app and adding it again and re-entering the login info. Apart from that, can't think of anything else, seems odd.

For google maps to work I agree. I am not too sure however if we are talking about the same thing.

What i was referring to is that the BMW remote will work regardless if you have nav or not. As long as the BMW has BMW assist (which is on everyBMW now in North America) regardless of packaging.

As for SIM? I am not too sure what you mean by SIM like in a cell phone?

A cell phone? What's a cell phone? Do you mean a mobile?

Yeah, I think we're talking at cross purposes here. I meant it needs a SIM as in what's in a cell phone, yes, and I'm just confused as to why an X3 would have a SIM or GPS if it didn't have nav installed - but maybe it does for bmw assist. It needs a SIM to receive command messages and it needs GPS to validate that the commands are allowed based on where the sending iPhone is located and its distance to the X3 (must be <1500m here)

I thought this was just for locating the car? so you can't remote lock from >1500m? that makes it useless for pretty much any commuter...

Is this even available anymore?

I looked out in the iPhone apps store and didn't see this app. Is it still out there?

It's never been available in the US but you can get it from the UK app store. Have a look at some of the earlier pages in this thread where other US members have done this successfully

Yes I have also got it by logging on to UK App Store but it offers limited features in US: light flas, honking, lock unlock and sending location to car.

New version now available (this was posted on another thread but I've reposted here for subscribers to this thread)

Version is 2.4.1. New stuff.

1. It's now just called "Remote". Hmmm. Why???
2. Colour is different and new user interface
3. Push notifications? - this is new I think? Or am I just making stuff up in hope?!
4. Ventilation is now called precondition
5. Still no beep horn function - booo! bring it back!

Have you tried the 'vehicle position' in the new version, sfax? Mine comes up with 'Session timed out. Please log in again'.

Is your X3 still parked outside your house?!

Try going to settings, change user, delete your user profile and then add it again (log in again). That should do the trick

Certainly is. Phew!

Thanks. I was just about to try that out - as soon as I can remember my password!

Found password and refreshed the app.

However, my car is refusing to talk to me! Come to think of it, it has been quite a while since it passed it's position back to the app, although it has worked in the past.
I've logged on to the Assist/Connected Drive website and checked that the relevant services are activated, and they are.

Anyone else had problems?

Where are the ventilation controls? Do they just randomly list non-existant features or what?

I downloaded the app, and after some time with the BMW assist folks on the phone, figured out the correct login/pword and was able to get the app working.

I can locate, flash lights, beep horn or lock/unlock.

Pretty cool

I guess the ventilation code fix is difficult when you have the steering wheel on the left..

Also note: if you use the remote app to lock the vehicle, it will lock it but it does not turn on the alarm.

Just installed the US app

After working for the past year using the UK app, the horn/light functions no longer work.

I hear the car "waking up", but no honk, no flash.

It can locate the car and unlock the doors, but cannot lock the doors.

BMW has been totally useless in resolving this one

As some people have had problems, I tried everything this evening with the new version:

1. Lock
2. Unlock
3. Precondition (climate/ventilation/switching the fans on!)
4. Flashing the headlights
5. Google Local Search - send to car
6. Locate car

(We don't have honk the horn anymore in the UK.)

I noticed precondition can now be sent as "now" rather than choosing a start time

It all worked with no problems. The time taken from a "cold start" was always 1 minute 20 seconds from pressing the button on the iPhone to the car doing the action. Locate car also took 1 min 20 secs.

The only thing I had to do was delete my user and re-authenticate in settings. I needed to do this anyway so the app picked up my changed reg no.

Got it figured out!

Somewhere hidden in the iDrive menus is "BMW Assist Update". Although remote horn and headlight flash worked for a year, these entries were not on the list. After the update they were and, eureka, it works again.

Another BMW electronics mystery solved.
