According to this article, from introduction to the end of fiscal 2010, BMW forecast 40,000 X6 units would be sold. They sold 80,000. I didn't find any forecast information since 2010.

You may be correct...but it has to do with planned/forecasted sales...they had forecasted to sell 20,000 but sold around 80,000. That is 400% over target achievement.

Again, it is a Niche market and has its target audience...it's not a 3 series that sells 100s of thousands...I myself wanted to buy X6 prior to my X3...but as a family, we found the back seats pretty crampy...had it been the two of us only...X6 was definitely on the list.
To be honest, I'm seeing more and more of X6 in the road compared to a couple of years back...not sure if it's because X6 hasn't got a lot of alternative competitors in the market...
I predict that the X4 will have its momentum as well...

I do like the 4 door coupe-esqe looks. Then it doesn't resemble every other SUV on the road.

Check out the thread with the 2 series gran coupe render. Looks _a lot_ like a modern day E46 to my eyes.

If having people in the backseat often is a concern, consider a different car.

I personally like the look of X6 but to be honest BMW should concentrate on building better, faster, maybe more reliable cars... I don't think the quantity of the vehicle in their lineup matters, they should be building better "quality" vehicles.

I agree... But that's a totally different subject...So are you concluding that the X6 doesn't have the desired quality at this point?

if you dont like something simply dont buy it no need to call it ugly its obiviously smaller x6 more affordable for those that want x6 but cant afford it. BMW company knows what it is doing with their models. X6 draws alot of attention when its on the road and other car companys such as honda and acura has taken out their own concept based on X6.
i see all of the bmw models on the road including the x1 which is slight bigger then 3series wagon, but smaller then x3
