2013 X3 35i M sport
New member to the x3 section however not new to m3post or BMWs. I have been around these cars my whole life.
Recently came across a lower mileage 2013 X3 35i M sport in sapphire black. Frankly speaking, I know nothing about these cars or the N55 engines. So, I'm reaching out to the current owners to share their experiences owning this car as this generation X3 always appealed to me. I currently own a 2009 e92 m3, which has been a great problem free experience in the 10 months that I've had it. However, when I bought it, I told myself I would keep it for a year and reevaluate the purchase. The running costs with this car are out there as many know. Compared to my old 330i ZHP and e36 m3, fuel cost and insurance has doubled on this one. The insurance doesn't concern me as much as the 200 miles per tank it gets. This part has gotten old quick. |

Swap your charge pipe asap if it hasn't been upgraded to a metal one.
I'm similar to you, I have an E46 M3 and love my X3. |

I own a 2015 X3 F25 with the N55 engine. Mechanically it has been sound and I've not had any problems with it. There are any number of posts on this and other forums which discuss leaking gaskets (I've had none), electric water pump failures in the 70k-100k mile range, and blown plastic charge pipes in the 70k-100k mile range. I've been proactive and replaced the water pump and charge pipe before any problems. Gas mileage has always been in 24-27 mpg range and that's fairly normal for a mix of city/highway driving. From my perspective the N55 engine is a strong and reliable performer and you should have minimal problems with one if it's been properly taken care of. That said, when problems do occur we all know that BMW means bring my wallet. Good luck.

I've got a 2012 X3 3.5 with 116,000 miles bought new. I do my own maintenance and repairs. Water pump and thermostat at 60,000 miles. Oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket at 70k. I changed transmission, transfer case, differential fluids and flushed brake fluids at 70k. Oil changes every 7K. So far no problems. We'll keep riding it until something major happens. Wife loves the car. Bought a 2021 SQ5 2 years ago to replace the X3 but she still wants to drive the BMW. Great car.

Maintenance schedules sound similar to my old 2005 330i ZHP which I sold with 227k miles. Rock solid car over the 100K I put on it. |

He said replace my charge pipe. In what, my e92 M3? I came here asking about a 2015 X3. Perhaps he should have elaborated that the charge pipe is a common failure point in that generation of X3s. I don't own an X3 that why I posted here asking for peoples experience with these cars.
