Loss of power + stalling
Hi,
I'm having some weird issue with my 2014 X3 3.5... I filled gas at a gas station a couple of days ago and as soon as I turned out of the gas station I heard some popping sound I lost 80% power and the car became very jerky. I then drove home very slowly and turned off the car. I tried to turn it on later, the engine rpm goes up and down (unstable) and then the engine stalls. I towed it to the dealer, they told me it is a fuel pump and ekps module. I replaced both myself and the issue is still there. Here are the error codes I have: 102001 - Air mass, plausibility: Air mass too high 102002 - Air mass, plausibility: Air mass too low 102A32 - Hot film air mass meter, operating range: Air mass too low 118001 - Mixture control: mixture too lean Edit: I forgot to ask the question! What is the best way to diagnose this? Has anyone had this problem and what could it be? Edit 2: Car has 70k miles on it Last edited by imst1g; 05-25-2020 at 02:13 PM.. Reason: forgot to ask the question |

Its a normal one in the town and gets a lot of traffic by being next to a Target. I have 5 gallons of fuel pumped out of the tank from when I changed the fuel pump. I emptied some in a jar but didn't see separation. Is there a better way to check it?

The other option of course is if you can get your car somewhere where all your gas can be drained, that would certainly do the trick if in fact the cause is water. https://youtu.be/GFi8Pm4ZJIc |

What fuel pump did you use?
Check your charge pipe for fun just to ensure its not that. You're at the mileage for it to pop.

Looks like the charge pipe was disconnected at the top. Plugged it back in, now the car is dying instantly when it starts up. I noticed some oil in the pipe, is this normal? I've attached a picture Edit: looks like the charge pipe was disconnected due to the engine stalling and shaking. The problem is somewhere else. Any other ideas? I cleaned the MAF and MAP sensors as well. Last edited by imst1g; 05-25-2020 at 08:07 PM.. |

Your charge pipe broke, that was the initial pop you heard. You need to replace your charge pipe with a new one. Should solve all your issues, all the faults you have are due to the charge pipe being off of the throttle body.

Right, I didn't pick up on the pop imst1g mentioned until I read Barbera335's post. Makes sense now that I think about it, especially coupled with the fact that there was no separation in the emptied gas and the gas station was his normal one that gets a lot of customers.

Thanks for the help everyone!
Turns out my charge pipe actually did not break, it only came off of the throttle body. The small connector for the hose going to the oil separator to the charge pipe broke as a result of the pipe popping off. It turns out someone before had installed the charge pipe clamp upside down so it did not lock. I epoxy'd the connector and all is good so far! Unfortunately, I changed a fuel pump for no reason due to the dumb dealer diagnosis |

How long does the typical charge pipe last? I ask as someone with no issues but my 2013 35i has 161,000 km (100,000 miles) on it now. Not sure if climate makes a difference to this failure or not?
