'No Signal' error
I was driving along today when my ipod lost connection, music stopped and the centre screen went black with the message 'NO SIGNAL' in orange in the centre. I tried changing to the radio, satnav and even the menu screen and nothing would work - the no signal screen remained. After a couple of minutes there was a beep and everything went back to normal, any ideas or is it just the electrical gremlins playing around?

I'm only guessing here, it could have a been an iDrive glitch or.....the positions of GPS satellites move over a period of a couple of weeks, this is sometimes referred to as GPS ephemeral data (ie temporary). This data needs to be refreshed when GPS signals are lost due to positional changes. If this happens at the same time as the aerial not having a clear view of the sky then the nav system at best will loose accuracy or hang. Having said this the iDrive, if this is the case, shouldn't completely hang.

I experienced this a few weeks ago - has happened only once in 5000 miles of driving now.
I drive through the same spot everyday - so doubt it was a lack of 'signal' whatever that refers to. I thought it could have been a remote software update perhaps - the splash screen afterwards looked different but maybe I just hadn't noticed it properly before. GCHQ / NSA hacking our cars possibly? EDIT : Found a similar i-drive problem on another forum : http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=938634 Bit worrying as it required a hardware swap. |

Same problem here. Happened <500 miles into driving my new car. I've seen multiple threads with owners having this problem the first day of ownership. Don't really have time to bring it in yet. Will keep a close eye on it.
It would suck to have to have the whole unit swapped so soon. DOn't really like the idea of having such extensive electrical work being done. Esp on a new car. |

Same for me. It happened twice during the first 5000 km. It fixed itself both times by sitting overnight. I took it to the dealer, and they did a software update. So far, so good. While the screen was showing no signal, I could still use the radio with the preset buttons.

i too have experienced this problem since i bought my x3.. had it 2 twice... The way i get NBT to work again is by resetting it... i hope there is a software fix soon as i have read on other forums that the NBT unit has to be pulled and replaced to fix this...

We've had this a few times on both our 1 series, always sorts itself out and no fault found by the dealer and it's always working when it goes in.
