Comfort Access Not Working Correctly
Anyone else experience this?
Go out to my car this morning and put my hand on the door handle. The doors don't unlock. I take my hand off, put it back on. Nothing. I then hit the button to unlock the doors on the fob, and they unlock. I get in the car, close the door, put my foot on the brake and press the Start/Stop button. Nothing. A message displays on the dash, telling me the fob cannot be found. I press the button again, nothing...the message says to try placing the fob next to the steering column. I do. It then says it recognizes the fob. I press the start/stop button, and the car starts. Do all of these things mean that the battery in my fob is getting low on power? Or is it broken? Or something else in the car with the Comfort Access System? I find it really weird the car didn't recognize the fob when I was outside of the car with my hand on the handle. Oh, and it is a 2013 X3 28i M-Sport with about 13k miles.

If you keep your iPhone in the same pocket it can cause interference with the comfort system.

Thanks for the reply, Don. As it happens, my iPhone 4S and fob were in the same pocket. Normally this is not the case. That might just explain things. I'll put it down as a question for the engineers at BMW next time I have the opportunity to interview them.

Today everything functioned as normal. Fob was in my left pocket, iPhone in the right one. I think Don got it. Will report back if anything else changes.

I realize this is an old thread, but just joined and this issue ticks me off. I have comfort access entry only when it it feels like it wants to work. It's been checked and nothing found to be wrong. Based upon experience if my iPhone is in the my handbag with the fob I can have problems. My issue is that women use handbags to store their phones and fob and not in their clothing. Hasn't BMW come up with a solution to the electronic interference?

CA tends to be on/off for me. It works well/often enough for me not to complain about it but it also sometimes drops and won't lock/unlock via touch or recognize the key as present when I get into the car.
I just chalk it up to quirks of electronics. Nothing to overthink or get bugged about. C'est la vie. |
