MPG on xDrive20d

Some real life mpg feedback here - sounds promising

Quote:
Managed a 200 mile round trip and averaged 44mpg at an average speed of 58 mixture of motorway and town so can't complain at that

Not bad

Managed 54.4 mpg in my 520d on a couple of hundred mile trip to St Ives last year - averaging 42 mpg with a heavy right foot in 5er and hope for everyday average of 35 ish from the X3

I've done about 900 miles in mine. Mixture of country roads , town driving and dual carriageway and so far averaging 38mpg. Best I've seen so far on a 25 mile trip was 44mpg

Very impressed with the economy and I'm not really trying . Amazing given the size of the x3.

Thanks for the info. Sounds very promising and like you said, even more so given its size.

Any little niggles after 900 miles of driving?

Saw a space grey for the first time in my local dealer yesterday and liked it a lot.

No, nothing. If anything I'm liking more and more every day.

It really is an amazing car. Space, comfort, high driving position, economical and was great during the snow (fitted with Dunlop winter tyres)

My impatience levels have just increased threefold! Thanks! Very pleased to hear that

Just had an X3 xDrive 2.0d auto for a test drive over the weekend. Had the car delivered in Slough but drove home to Leeds, so a good 200 mile+ journey. Slightly disappointed in the mpg over this long motorway drive - it managed just shy of 43mpg. My current Audi A5 1.8TFSI can do this so I was expecting more from a diesel. The demo car had all the toys on so I'm hoping these were a contributing factor (weight/power draw).

Still, the car drove fantastically, particularly as it peed it down. The X3 was far more stable than anything I've ever driven before. In the A5 I'd be terrified (literally) by puddles in the second overtaking lane but the X3 just smashed straight through them.

What has impressed me has been the around town mpg. I got about 38mpg on short journeys which is remarkable ... the A5 would get about 27-28mpg on the same trips.

The auto box on the X3 is superlative. I used to have an A3 with DSG which I thought was incredible but the new BMW auto box puts DSG to shame. I just wish there were "flappy paddles" on the steering wheel.

Thanks for the feedback. I currently own a '06 Golf GTI which barely gets above 34mpg on motorway drives so 43mpg for a bigger car is a godsend! You'd have to drive it pretty slowly on the motorway to get near 50mpg I think (relative to other cars not the official speed limit!) but I look forward to finding out.

I agree, 38mpg on short journeys is very good. Also enjoyed your description of smashing through puddles!

It could be worse. I get 20mpg to the station and back (couple of miles each way) and 27mpg on a run (but I thrash it) in my 30d.

I don't care. I bought it to enjoy the engine/car. If I could have had the 35i in the UK I would!

btw, got 15mpg on the same journeys in a F30 N20 328i loaner. Was shocked by that.

45mpg or 6.3l/100km real consumption not the OBC I guess I drive moderately but when I'm in a real hurry or inspired the difference is less than 1l/100km.
Great engine and great gearbox (manual)

Mostly short journeys from cold over the winter I got 39mpg. Seeing a slight improvement lately up to average 42mpg including a couple of 200m trips at 80mph. Usaully 2 persons no luggage and half fuel load. Covered 5000m from new in 8 months.

9000km, mostly "urban highways" (60%), city with heavy traffic (30%) .

7.35 l/100km that is 33.6 mpg (US) and 37.76 mpg (Imperial). The info comes from precise calculation over km and liters filled in, the board computer is something like 5 to 8% more optimistic.

Wonder how many miles Eco Pro will add to a tank. My wife's 1 series has it and whilst it makes the accelerator feel numb it adds about 20 miles to a tank of fuel. So 5% improvement roughly Anyone any experience yet of how Eco Pro feels on the X3??

Same effect as you mention, just dulls the accelerator action and makes the car feel really slow. I mainly just use it in conjuction with cruise control and the max speed it works up to is 75mph but I believe you can change this.

Average (calculated from fuelings) is now 43.46 MPG (imperial), or 6.5 l/100km.

3000 km on the clock, manual gearbox.
