Lightbulb Battery replacement

Hello Spoke to the local dealer / parts

the 105AH relevant battery is with part # 61-21-5-A40-E33.

Mentioned the old original part # 61212353814 is not available anymore.

Is there any benefit with BMW brand battery vs. Say a Duracell ?

Who is the actual manufacturer of the BMW brand battery ?

Has anyone tried part # 61-21-5-A40-E33 in F25/X3 as replacement...is this an AGM ?

Any alternate brand suggestions would be helpful ...to fit the 2014 X3 28i

Thanks

In my experience it's best to just buy the battery from the dealer and register it yourself. They're often the same price as elsewhere and you get an additional year of warranty for buying the "oem" battery.

I paid... $245 for mine a year or so ago which I was shocked by... in a good way.

I have the Duracell for the past 4 years.
I believe it’s made by Johnson Controlls.
It will say right on the battery.

Very reasonable price, almost amazing 😉

I think Exide is the main OEM supplier for BMW batteries
Exide EK950 95ah 017 stop start agm battery is what I bought
for £132 in the uk in 2019.

Yes, the BMW 105AH battery that you posted is an AGM battery. It says so right on the battery.

When I replaced mine back in Jan/2023 (see pics below)...with my BMW CCA discount...it was $227 out the door (with $18 core charge return). All the other H9 class size batteries being sold by other vendors in my area (at the time) were only 100 AH and they cost more. Batteries Plus did sell a 105 AH Duracell 95R/H9 battery...but they wanted over $300 for it.

The other thing that I appreciated with the BMW branded battery is...it came with a little black elbow and additional plug in a little plastic baggy...which is needed to connect the new battery to the car's vent tube and to PLUG the other vent hole on the other side of the battery. You need to do this if your battery is enclosed inside the trunk or below the rear seat...any off gasses from the battery need to be vented to the exterior of the car and not released inside the car/battery enclosure.

I, too, went with the BMW battery (61-21-5-A40-E33) since it was less expensive and higher capacity than the aftermarket alternatives. In Feb 2023 it was around $220 I think. Mine did not come with the elbow or plug; I had to transfer those over from the old battery.

I used BimmerLink to reset it.

Just an FYI…if you purchase a battery from the dealer or aftermarket…if it does NOT come with the new elbow & plug in a little baggy stuck to the side…ask them to check if it fell off…or get one off another battery they have in stock.

Also, some aftermarket batteries won't come with the little black elbow (so make sure you keep your original)…and the extra plug may be built into one of the battery post covers…so be careful to not throw that away until you’ve removed the snap-out plug to insert in the extra vent hole in the battery (if you’re battery is in an enclosed area).

Examples below shows the snap-out plug built into battery terminal cover on some aftermarket batteries:

I got a Duracell 105ah battery for my X3 because I simply assumed the dealer would be more expensive. I was wrong, so when I needed one for my 650, I got it at the dealer. Takes 30 seconds to register with Bimmerlink.
