Feedback on Oyster interior please...
I just love the look of this interior, but don't know if I'm nuts to get it with my toddler, our dog and my husband! Anyone have it that can give feedback on its durability and ease of cleaning?

The best with the Oyster is that the floor covering is black. If you order beige then the floor and the entire intrerior is beige.
I have a golden retriever and a 2 1/2 year old. I too had second thoughts, and coming from a black sports interior of an E53 X5, Oyster is a nice change and does give the car a luxurious look and feel. I had no issues keeping the beige seats in my X5 MKI clean the bugger was the floor covering. Mine is a 3.0d (Vermillion/Oyster) and a May production and hope to get it around July.

My current E90 has Lemon leather. Lemon is slightly yellow hued where Oyster is slightly gray/blue hued... essentially the same in terms of maintenance. I have had the Lemon for 4 years and it looks just about like it did the day I drove it off the lot.
Now, having said that - some important disclaimers: 1. I'm neat. My entire interior looks like nobody ever drives the car. 2. I wear clean clothes. I don't do yard work and then hop in the car to run an errand. 3. Dyed leather such as belts or jackets *may* transfer some dye. Be careful about that, especially with cheaper leathers. 4. Wet jeans will ruin it. Flat out ruined. The blue dye will transfer and you'll be lucky if a professional can get it out. I have a towel in the trunk since day one just in case I ever find myself wearing wet jeans. Otherwise, the same rules apply as for any leather - regular maintenance and common sense.

That's why I always make my passengers take off their pants.
But you could always get a set of these:

We biggest fear would be wet jeans coming out of the rain. I have had two tone white/black leather but the side bolsters were the white part. Cleaning was simple. |

+1 on the seat covers. Even though I'm getting Nevada Black, I still ordered the covers. Between my small producing avocado grove, field work and mtn biking, things can get messed up pretty quickly. Cheap insurance.

after having this color in our car and owning it for about 3 months I will say that it gets dirty quite easily from friction on the bolsters on the front seats. We have the sport package and the bolsters near the door tend to discolor often blue from jeans rubbing on them as you get in and out of the car.
That said, it cleaned off really easily with some Lexol and looks good as new but I'm not sure how it will look in 3-5 years of wear. I still love the look thou! |

I would store them in the trunk and use them when wearing workwear etc, cant find them on the UK BMW accessories and would like to order a set
My oyster is holding up well and looks like new after 1000 miles - last few cars had light colour leather and you get used to not avoiding indigo jeans or dirty clothes and keeping wipes handy to stop build up of grime

It's really all about your lifestyle and neatness habits. If you have kids, are prone to getting in the car dirty, or are just not the type of person to proactively clean things then Oyster is probably not a great choice. But again, my Lemon interior still looks great after four years. I have Oyster on order and have no second thoughts about it at all.

I had leather Oyster in my last car, the kids killed it. 1.5 and 3 yrs old. It always looked grungy. This time I opted for black leatherette, already it's been stomped on, puked on, spilt all over, and it's cleaned up like new. Can't always have the nice things with the kids, but the leatherette is a pretty good compromise. My 2 cents.

I have Oyster in my E90 and it will get dirty. The one thing it has over beige is at least the carpeting is black.
I do have to clean it from time to time but it's not that big of a deal. I also don't have kids or any pets. It's usually just me and my girlfriend so that makes it a little easier. If you see it getting dirty and are not one to keep up on it, it might not be the best choice. I think if it gets heavy use it will need regular cleaning.

Oyster no doubt looks good more so with a wood trim combo. Brochure/catalogue material! Driving it and owning it is another story. If you want to enjoy your SAV and your toddler to enjoy his toddlerhood- Oyster may not be the best lifestyle choice. IMHO

Think I might go black instead of oyster now. Have a new born and 2 year old. Although the 2 year old has never blemished the seats so far, I mean between the huge car seats and mats under them, it's pretty hard for anything to reach the seats.
I can't stand wood trim in cars so I will be getting aluminum trim. |
