Came from a Nissan Armada - love that engine with nearly 400lbs of torque - to the X3 35. Gave up some space but love the refinement. BTW, not having to stop at every gas station I pass with the X3 is an added bonus!

Is there a prize for having the most unlikely to-from transition?
I came from a 2009 Porsche Carerra 4 Cabriolet (997.2, 6MT). A funny thing happened when I went to the dealer to look at a 650ci replacement for my C4 Cab . . . I ended up with a X3 28i. LOL The X3 isn't my Porsche's replacement, it is just meant to be something practical in addition to whatever 'vert I ultimately get (probably an Aston Martin V8 Vantage). I'll never get another Porsche, you can read why here: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...long-post.html In terms of comparison, you have a pure sports car on one hand and a fairly comfortable (large) vehicle that is reasonably sporty (for what it is). The X3 is much, much quieter and I think BMW's cabin tech is well ahead of Porsche's. It is also much less fatiguing on long trips and I don't drive it as aggressively as I did the Porsche . . . which I'm sure John Q Law appreciates. Of course the Porsche was insanely tossable (when it was not broken) and, at the best of times, it felt like it was an extension of my driving will. I had previously driven the Cadillac SRX and Mercedes GLK (rentals on biz trips) and I test drove the Infiniti EX35, the X3 is significantly better than all 3. |

Have (and soon to be 'had') a FX35 for the last almost 9 years. Got it when they first came out. It's a great highway car. Have taken it on multiple trips cross-country and into the moutains of UT,WY, CO and Montana. I have a 35i on order and hopefully will arrive middle of Feb. Sure hope the X3 is as good and comfortable as the FX. Based on my test drives I think it should. I'll find out soon.

2007 328i to 2011 Audi A4 Quattro both manuals to X3 35i. X3 is the quickest vehicle I have ever owned. Used to have a couple of Jeeps and wanted to try a SUV again. No regrets. Recently had a Suburban for a week at work. The brakes were very week and the car shuddered a lot. I believe there is a case for a sure footed and performance vehicle. 1000s agree too!

i still have my '05 subaru turbo legacy, which is just as quick as the x3 35i. i'm still getting used to the x3, especially its larger size and greater height. in spite of those things, i think the x3 has less body roll.

2003 Audi a6 avant - large room in the boot, better interior design, adequate acceleration, smoother ride, used too much washer fluid per clean and gripped well enough for a sport wagon.
What I get with the X3 - much more powerful engine (from 220hp to 300hp), more grip in corners, 21st century electronics, cheaper interior, adequate boot size, love the panoramic sunroof, and more articulation for potholes. I would have bought a 2012 a6 avant in a heartbeat, but they're not selling them in the US. |

VW Golf 2.0 TDI 140CP. My X3 will be in production soon - so I only got to see it at the test drive. Great car, bigger, dynamic - I love my Golf and I'm sure will love even more my first BMW.
