I have Sprint Nexus S and all phone functions work fine (calls, phone book, previously dialed lists) Haven't tried any Office functions a whole lot, but first quick go around didn't work. I'm assuming Office won't work.

Hey Dave,

Unfortunately things did not work out as I had hoped. I wasn't getting any texts on emails on my screen (I assume that they just pop up?) and I even deleted the existing pairing and re-paired the phone to the car. It looks like it's "trying" to do it because when I pair the phone and car, I now get an alert on the phone that says that "BMW xxxx is requesting permission to access text messages and e-mails" - or something like that. I click on "Always" to always allow permission, but after that, I don't get anything else. No texts, no emails. Arrgh - so close but yet so far. Maybe it just doesn't support my phone. I'll keep trying, but the fact that the car is requesting those permissions makes me think that the profile is there, but something else is preventing it from working. I'll keep trying, though.

Thanks for your heads up - I wouldn't have known about this setting in the phone in the first place.

Hey Joseph,

Ok, that's a start at least. Sounds like it's now trying to synchronize the emails/texts etc. I'll do some digging for your specific device and see if there's something obvious being missed. I'll let you know over the weekend.

In the meantime, un-pairing and re-pairing was a good move, because I believe that this process somehow resets a profile.....shame it didn't fully work however.

Also, if you get a chance....could you check the Android marketplace for the (supposedly released) "My BMW Remote" app? BMW Canada CLAIMS that it has been released in the U.S. (2 days ago), but I am doubtful.

Thanks. Talk to you later.
Dave

EDIT: oh wait.....you may have already done this, but just in case: check to make sure that you have set the "OFFICE" feature in iDrive. See page 177 in the owner's manual. If not already checked off, check it off and un-pair, then re-pair the device and try again.

Dave

Joseph, your HTC Vivid DEFINITELY supports MAP:

Supported profiles A2DP, AVRCP, GAP, GAVDP, GOEP, HFP, HID, HSP, MAP, OPP, PAN, PBAP, SPP

So that's a good thing....now just have to figure out where the "block" is....assuming the OFFICE feature has been checked off already in iDrive.

Having been with android since the orig droid, and having no plans of becoming an idrone, i am really frustrated by the support given to ios first these days since the total number of android phones far exceeds iphones. OK, enough of my android fanboy rant.

Droid 3 works well with phone, dream of getting txt/email. Can't find any advanced setting in my phone for BT to see if MAP is on/off.

My company works heavily with German companies, all 3 of them are iphone ONLY. Given that sentiment, I am not hopeful BMW will release new firmware for android...

Dave,

Thanks for your relentless pursuit to find out why I'm having problems. Unfortunately, I'm still not getting texts or emails. Thanks for finding that MAP is supported but I must either be doing something wrong or there is a setting I'm missing - or maybe the phone just isn't compatible. I checked the OFFICE feature and sure enough it's checked off. Every time I unpair and then pair the phone to the car, it seems like the car is trying to connect with that message I get on the phone - but no dice...

I've rebooted my phone, unchecked and checked everything so far.. I'll keep trying, though!

By the way - I think the page reference you made is page 185 in my manual.

What else could I be missing? Hmmmmm...

Pg. 177 has the following:

Activating/deactivating the additional functions
1. "Telephone"
2. "Bluetooth (telephone)"
3. Open "Options".
4. Select the desired additional function.
▷ "Additional telephone"
▷ "Office"
▷ "Bluetooth audio"

Page 178 has:

Configuring the devices
Additional functions can be activated or deacti‐ vated for paired and connected devices.
1. "Telephone"
2. "Bluetooth (telephone)"
3. Highlight the device to be configured.
4. Open "Options".
5. "Configure phone"
6. At least one function must be selected.
▷ "Telephone"
▷ "Additional telephone"
▷ "Audio"
7. "OK"

This second one looks like the menu in your photo above. I'm not quite getting the difference between the to menu "paths" and so how to get the first one that the manual says has the "Office" option.

Hey Joseph, rats!.....had my fingers crossed on that one.....in any case, you've definitely dotted all your "I's"......I'll keep poking around and maybe check a few HTC forums out there re: MAP.

Hey Joseph,

Couple of other things for you to check & possibly even upgrade yourself.

From BMW....PDF regarding software update available for certain vehicles, including F25's. You'll note that there are some fixes available for the F25 for HTC (although it notes HTC Sensation, HTC all the same). These are instructions as well on how to upload the software (per USB stick) to your car.

http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/ow...D01004_ENG.pdf

Also, in order to download, you need to go here first:

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...ndingpage.html

Select International English. Then on the next page (at the bottom), enter the last 7 digits of your VIN then click continue. IF the next page displays a download link, there's an update available for YOUR vehicle and you're good to go. The BIN file will be downloaded to your PC, from there just copy it over to a USB stick (no need to do anything special with the file other than copy it over), then go to your vehicle and follow the upload instructions per the above noted PDF.

Finally, un-pair, re-pair the phone, make sure OFFICE is still checked off etc and try again.

Good luck. If that doesn't work, I'm stumped....for the time being.

Later
Dave

EDIT: I upgraded with this version and no issues (couple of odd changes to screen (iDrive) etc), but no negative technical issues were introduced.

First of all Dave, I should start paying you for the research. LOL! I am going to check that out - however, I think the software versions that are in my system might be a newer version than those mentioned in the pdf file. I did enter my VIN and it did let me download the bin file but I would swear the last time I checked, the MX and TX software versions in the car were 4.x.x - but who knows, I'll check tomorrow.

What odd changes to the iDrive screen did you notice?

Anyway Dave, thanks again for all the time you've spent!

Hey no worries Joseph, I hate mysteries....I'm sure there's a good/simple reason why yours isn't connecting, although clearly tries to connect for emails/texts etc.

Hmmm...version 4.x.x eh?.....that's weird. When I did mine, it upgraded it to 3.5.4, which could easily be because my x3 likely has a slightly different audio system when compared to yours (next audio option DOWN from yours probably).

Could be that the BIN file you were able to download was for the TX bit specifically, versus MX & TX.....if it allowed you to download it, BMW records probably indicate that there's an update available for your car.

As for weirdness in the iDrive.....a new option appeared called "ConnectedDrive"...which I know wasn't there previously (car was one of the first off the line in January '11 for Canada/Toronto area). Anyway, no new features within that option....just the usual BMW Assist stuff.....

Keep me posted if you do in fact have an update available....might address your issue!

Dave - I'm sorry - I was mistaken. I did check my versions and they are:

MX-003.004.031
TX-003.004.031

I guess the "4" threw me off! I wonder if that means my versions are 3.4.31 in terms of that pdf file. So, perhaps this is newer than what I have. But, I'm not sure with the way I'm interpreting the numbers. I'm almost afraid to mess something up, though. lol! Would have been nice for them to include this version in current systems!

The "ConnectedDrive" is already on my system. That's where I access all the BMW Assist features. Interesting that you didn't have that before, though! Perhaps the version I have new is "newer" than the one you had originally but not as new as the one in the bin file.

What's the worse that can happen?

Hey Joseph,

So 2 things:

1. When your car leaves the plant, everything your car has been built with (including software versions etc) is obviously recorded. When you look up your VIN, all those bits & pieces are listed for YOUR vehicle. So when you keyed in your VIN on the bluetooth website the other day, AND it allowed you to then download a new BIN file....it means the BIN file is more up to date than what's currently in your car.

2. The update is totally reversible (you'll see this option on your iDrive when you go to install the newer BIN update).

IF all hell were to break loose, which it won't, you can easily restore to your previous version.

Hope it addresses your HTC connection issues.....!

Dave

EDIT: Sorry....forgot to add...yes, you're correct. That is version 3.4.31.....

Thanks again Dave - going to try it tomorrow. I didn't notice the "Restore Previous Version" option. Fingers crossed and hope it works. Otherwise, maybe I'll get a Galaxy S II!

Dave - well what can I say - I think you did it! I did the upgrade and re-paired the phone and at first I didn't notice anything different. But after the same message on the phone above, I notice that on the iDrive screen, the rotating circle appeared as if it's was loading something. After it was done, I just happened to go into the Messages section of the phone and viola - all my text messages and emails where in there! So, YES - it looked like the firmware upgrade worked! I'm very thrilled to have this resolved!

However, one thing I notice is that when I received a new text message, it did not get sent to the iDrive screen immediately. Is it supposed to? In fact, it didn't show up at all (and then I had to leave the car so I'm not sure if it would have eventually been transferred to the iDrive). Are messages and e-mails supposed to be sent to iDrive immediately? If I have my navigation running, for example, and I receive a text message, is it supposed to pop up on the screen automatically?

Not sure if those are intended functions, but I just wanted to make sure. It seems to do a SMS/EMAIL load when it first pairs but I'm not sure it is constantly updated.

Thanks again for your help Dave - it looks like this is just about resolved.

Hey that's great news Joseph. With respect to the delays....yes, I have seen this on occasion, but not too often (maybe couple of times a week?). I think it's possible that BMW will continue to work on this (MAP) issue over the coming months, particularly now that Android holds a fairly secure marketshare these days.

So I would simply check every 3 months or so (the bmw software update site) and just check to see if new updates become available.

Glad you managed to get it to this stage though Joseph! Speak to you soon.

Best
Dave

EDIT: Actually Joseph, one thing I've been looking at (re the incoming emails/texts "delay") is a "synchronize" function within the Android OS. I'll let you know after I experiment with a few option settings. Later!
Dave

Ugh, this is frustrating. I've read through various threads, updated, re-paired, etc., and still can't get text messages to show up on my screen. I have a Samsung GII Skyrocket and the latest Bluetooth update for my car (3.5.4 I think). Emails show up under messages, but SMS messages don't. If this was working, where would I see the texts? Would there be a notification or would I have to check messages whenever I hear one come in on my phone? Is there any magic to make this work? Thx.

Apologies if I appear thick but after reading through all the posts in this thread and a few others I am none the wiser okay I know it might be only me but here goes with another post on bluetooth, USB connectivity.

My requirements are pretty simple, being able to connect the phone to make / receive voice calls, see text messages on the car screen and play music stored on my phone through the car speakers and display the song list on the car screen.

Car Spec:
It will be a UK registered 2013MY 2.0d SE without Sat Nav but with Bluetooth hands-free with USB audio interface (6NH according to the order form) added as an option.

Phone:
Samsung Galaxy SII on Android

Questions:
1). Am I right in assuming I can connect the phone via bluetooth to make and receive calls?
2). At the same time can I connect the phone via USB to play songs on the phone, get the song list displayed on the car display and listen to them through the car speakers?
3). Will the phone be charging when I connect via USB?

There was a mention on here about the added reception from the car Shark Fin aerial? is this available with the 6NH option?

Have I chosen the correct option or do I need to call my dealer again to get another option?

Dave,

My HTC Vivid was upgraded to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and now I get the message notification on my iDrive screen immediately after it reaches my phone! I am guessing there's something in the upgrade or perhaps it cleaned something out. Now it's really useful!

I'm sorry I don't have that phone, but if it was working, you'd see the envelope symbol on the iDrive screen after your phone received the SMS. The notification didn't work for me until just today after I had upgraded my phone to the latest Android version.

That being said, do you have your "filter" to show ALL types of messages? SMS messages would show up in the same list as all the other messages, but it won't show if you filtered it to only show Emails, or Concierge, etc. However, I suspect that that was so obvious that that wasn't the issue, though.
