Adjusting door close pressure
Does anyone know how to adjust the doors so they don't take so much force to close? My rear right door in particular needs to be pushed quite hard to close. Is this something I can adjust?
Thanks

BMW is probably adjusting them to the "tight" side because of all the complaining on this forum about wind noise and water leaks. Seriously, I'd give the car a week or two to let the door gaskets "settle in" and if it still seems "too tight", ask your dealer to adjust the striker plates. |

Take a look at the door from a shallow angle -- ie, sighting down the side of the vehicle. If the door surface (ie, the outer sheet metal) is visibly inset on the front or back edge from the surrounding body panels, then the door hardware will need to be adjusted. If not, then move on to check the gaskets to make sure they are installed properly (if you see a pinched spot, look closer, as that may be the culprit). If everything checks out OK, then it may just be that the gaskets need time to settle in. But you want to diagnose problems sooner than later.

What Lotus said makes sense. The front passenger door seals seem to have softened up, it doesn't take as much force to close now. The rear doors are rarely used so it will probably take a while. We're supposed to get 2 days of rain soon so I'll be on the lookout for leaks.

2 hours, 5 days a week.
I just don't like slamming the door. Doesn't sound good. Lotus was right, the 2 front doors seem to be settling in and closing smoother every day.

I was being a wise-ass, obviously... but yeah, they should "break in" with use. The rears presumably are not used as often so will take longer. Lotus is generally spot on, so I only had smart remarks to offer.
Having to contribute to a thread after Lotus has already commented is like being the opening band that has to come on and play AFTER Led Zeppelin.

LOL. So true, he knows everything, and to such a degree I'd think he was an Engineer at BMW.

My left driver door and left rear door is alittle harder to shut than the right side. I am like you I don't like to slam the doors. My wife shuts them hard I always telling her it is not necessary. I had an 08 328i and it didn't take nothing at all to shut them. I do belive they are getting easier.
