X3 sDrive18d finally arrived

Yesterday the lease contract of my Audi A4 finally came to an end and I could pickup my X3
Went for the sDrive18d instead of a 320d Touring as the trunk is a bit bigger and I like the design more. xDrive unfortunate could not be leased as the CO2 emission was to high

First time in a BMW after being loyal to Audi for 20 years First impressions are good. It has a manual gear and what a difference between the Ecodrive Pro option and sport option when you drive it. A completely different car.
Just need to get used to that handbrake not switching off when you drive away. The audi did that, now I need to push the button to release it. First time I drove off stalled the car as I did not release the handbrake
And the car does show its an sDrive18d

Here are some pictures:

Yay! MCoen glad you like your new car , however -

.
(use the attachment feature and size the pictures to the right size).

You will soon get used to the e-brake. Also - the 2.0d manual automatically holds the brake on for a couple of seconds if you are on an incline (facing up) - i.e. you stop with your foot on the brake, clutch pedal depressed - moving off the foot brake you can feel the car holding on the brake. Presumably the 1.8 will as well?

MCoen,

Congrats with the new car. If you put your seat belt on the handbrake switches off automatically when you start driving.

BTW have you considered buying a chip to take it pas the performance of the 20d? It's the same engine as the 20d. Think ill give it a go when mine arrives.

What's the chip in question and how much? Presumably it has a significant impact on insurance and emissions/tax?

Yes I thought about it but a bit hesitant as it is a company car. And to be honest, performance is better than the A4 I had, it was the 2.0 tdi with 120hp. So you don't hear me complaining. It was a choice i made as it was eirher this one and a bigger trunk or the new 320d touring which is a lot faster.
Happy with my choice though as performence is more than enough for me.

This is the one I was thinking of, positive reviews online:

http://www.chipexpress.com/products/4063/

There's a company called superchips that have a product called bluefin, which is a bit different because rather than being a processing unit, it is a device that remaps the engine software, but with the advantage of being able to restore the factory settings prior to servicing, thus protecting warranties.

Looks great!

I've ordered an X3 as my next lease car too, to replace our Mercedes R (which has become prohibitively expensive due to its high CO2).

My lease budget stretches somewhat further (sorry!), so I've ordered the xDrive20d (184hp, not the 135 light version), mineral silver & oyster interior, executive package (incl professional nav, storage & light packages, heated seats, xenon lights, etcetera), automatic, X-line, auto tailgate, premium sound, sports steering wheel, apps, retractable tow bar, dark rear windows, 20/40/20 rear seats,... Should arrive @ week 17, two weeks before my current lease expires. Can't wait!

Has Bmw cut corners on the 18d other than AWD?

No, it's as you say, it's just RWD and e 18d engine which is the lower bhp version of the 20d. All else is the same. I just ordered one here in the uk, and they now come with DAB and Bluetooth as standard too. I read a couple of reviews online saying at with good winter tyres you're no worse off in bad weather without AWD, especially if you're in fairly temperate land like the Uk has. And the motorway performance is very similar to the 20d but with the advantage of being about £2500 cheaper and lower running costs.

Funnily enough, a friend just sent me this link, in which the prospect of a RWD X3 is lauded - before the sdrive was launched:
