So, a couple mornings ago, I turn on my car, which has been parked in my garage all night, and when I shift into reverse, the shifter light shows R, then goes to N and then P (back to park). This shifting happens all within 5 seconds or so. Same when I try to shift to drive or neutral - it just goes back to park.

When it goes back to park, the check engine light comes on, and my dash tells me "drivetrain malfunction".

I got my car towed to a local mechanic and they're now telling me they can't reproduce the error that I had, and they weren't able to find anything wrong. This is weird because I had turned the car off and on a couple times and even tried again after a day, and I ran into the issue.

Anyone know what may be up with my car?

I believe error codes should have been stored in the computer and with a proper code reader, they should have been able to be retrieved, even if they are not current errors (codes). Did they try to retrieve any error codes? Was your door open?

They did try to retrieve error codes, they said they didn't see any reoccur after driving.
