First BMW! Glacier Silver 28i

Hey everyone- making my intro post here as I plan to use these forums as much as possible!

Girlfriend and I traded in a prius and picked up a 17 x3 28i with x drive this past weekend and couldn't be more excited to be owners. We were also considering the Grand Cherokee, RDX & MDX. Between the x3's Harmon Kardon sound system, heated seats, all wheel drive, handling, turbo, we're smiling ear to ear every time we get in and know we made the right choice. Price was good and we also got a 60mo warranty with lifetime oil changes included.

Plans in the next month or so: Debadge the "X3", all weather mats, 12 & 20mm spacers, roof rack (for a rooftop tent eventually). Interested in the BimmerCode app but need to do more research. Also want to see how those nifty side mirrors with the pointy ends look, along with the black kidney grilles but I also don't want to go crazy with all the black accents.

Super excited to take this baby to the snow and Lake Tahoe in the next few months!! We actually got stuck in a snowstorm last year in our Prius for over 7 hours- ever since we've been itching to get into something higher with AWD.

I've been around the block with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and GMC, but I can already tell this will become one of my fav cars. In the past I owned an 03 350z that I loved along with a 14 Sierra for opposite reasons, this x3 feels like the perfect balance between the two.

Thanks for having me!

congrats. though I am not sure about the rooftop tent idea. Not sure how much weight the roof is rated for. Plus I never understood the real advantage of the rooftop tent over a regular tent, esp considering the price involved.

The oem crossbars are rated for 165lbs for dynamic weight and the rule of thumb is static capacity is 3x that (495lbs) so the two of us and our dog SHOULD be okay, but you're right I have to call BMW to confirm the specific rating before I go ordering crap. As far as benefits go- I admit it's mostly a luxury item. Avoiding anything crawling on the ground is nice, along with better views, but also the ability to drive out anywhere the x3 can take me and just set up camp without regards to the ground- that's awesome. I'll keep you guys posted

Very nice!! I looked at the MXD and RDX for my wife, I don't like them. I like the new RDX, but we were not buying in that price range.

BMW's are great. I've been driving them since 2002. RWD (in your case, RWD bias), 50/50 weight distribution are some of the best features of the cars.

Congrats on the new car! These are great cars as long as you keep up with maintenance. Just a quick overview on maintenance that I would recommend would be:
-7.5k mile oil changes
-60k mile automatic transmission service, 30k drain and refill on the transmission
-30k transfer case and differential fluid changes

There are more maintenance recommend intervals but I feel this is what should be of importance to people who are somewhat new to BMW maintenance schedules. Good luck with everything!
