Rear bumper tow hook cover

My car is November 2012 build. The other night I noticed the rear bumper had a piece of black plastic hanging off. It appears to be the rear tow hook cover. There is no sign of any other damage to the bumper and it just appears to have come loose. I can push it back into place but it feels flimsy and falls out again after a drive.

My questions are:-

a) has anybody else had this experience?

b) is it poor quality manufacturing (the other one also seems quite flimsy but is staying in place) or has somebody tampered with it?

c) how much is it likely to cost to get this fixed or would it be covered by warranty?

Also I am in the process of booking it in to get the sat nav fixed (the RTTI glitch referred elsewhere here) and to have them look at the iphone email problem. Are they obliged to provide a courtesy car? We are a one car family and my wife and baby need the vehicle daily so major inconvenience to book this in.

Grateful for any thoughts as ever.

I lost the rear divers side cover on my X3 M sport - the replacement had to be painted AW to match. You could duct tape from the back side to keep it in place.

Spoke to garage and they seem to think it is a case of physically bending the part a bit. Will see if this works but this all feels a bit 1980's Skoda to me.

One of my tow hook covers fell off. I can't believe there isn't a retaining strap.

They quoted me £100 for a replacement!

Anything that just falls off under 4 years and 50k should be replaced free of charge. What if the steering wheel just fell off? Or one of the doors? Lol

Well it worked. I bent the plastic clip on the cover slightly and it now stays in. However there are only so many times you can do this before the plastic will give and the clip will snap off altogether. At that stage I suspect I will be advised to use double sided tape.

Really poor quality design for a premium vehicle. I am generally very happy with the car but there are several areas where it does seem to needlessly let itself down on quality issues. Hopefully the engine will not turn out to be one of them!

Also had problem

Mine also came off on both sides within a couple of weeks. I was told on the 3 series there is a retainer system but not on X3. Dealer ordered the set, repainted them to match, and reinstalled at no charge. They had a sticky double sided tape that they used to secure it from behind. That was about 9 months ago and no problems since.

Happen to me a few years ago. The part was a few bucks. Total with painting...$125. And the worst part was that somebody probably stole it to replace their tow hook cover.

sorry for old bump

But in case any of you are searching for this... I found an Amazon seller that ships painted covers:
https://www.amazon.com/Painted-BMW-2...01MA14IG3?th=1

Anyone have luck with this or ordering a pre-painted rear tow-hook cover for M-Sport Aero package F25 X3 from another seller?

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a purchase and looks like one of the covers is missing, so if I do, I'll update this thread with results.

pdubq I bought my X3 M Sport recently and the tow hook cover was missing off the back, I bought mine painted from a seller in Latvia on eBay, took a while for shipping but the paint match and fitment was perfect.

Cool! Thanks! Mind sending the sellers eBay name please? Or a link?
