Did anyone's X3 come with 40/20/40 rear seats? How about the CDN's?

The ones at the dealer (here in Canada at least) only had 60/40 seats. Are the 3 piece seats not standard? And I'm sure I read somewhere it's an option one can specify, but the dealer's telling me that's not correct either. You just can't get them that way...

What makes it funny is that BMW Canada's website even has a demo of the seats in action!

I ordered mine as a special option. Not having this option for me was a deal breaker so the dealer contacted someone at BMW Canada and took care of it.

I would've been happy (I think) with the pass through but that wasn't even offered on the 60:40 seats.

OK, I know I'm not going crazy then... I can't find where I read it though.

Did you pay the $400 special order fee for it?

How about the storage option? I wonder if you have to order that to get the seats like that...

Any chance you know how he did it? Is there an order code or something I can tell him to punch in when making my order? So ridiculous that I'd have to tell my rep what is available, and seem to know more about the product than he does...

PS Which city are you in? PM me if you prefer.

I see from the US ordering guide posted http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=445900

that they are a stand alone option (code 465) for $200, or included if you get the Cold Weather Package (ZCW).

I wonder what's the deal in Canada and how dirtdevil managed to get it done. We don't have a Cold Weather Package because heated front seats and steering wheel are standard here, but unfortunately, heated rear seats or the 40/20/40 seats are not only not standard, it seems cannot be ordered.

Well, they call it 40/20/40, but it's really not. You can take the cent done for the 20, you can take one side down for the 40, but the other side only comes down with the seat and center together, so I figure that's a 60.

I thought I was the only one who found that 40/20/40 description a bit misleading. I said to the dealer it should only be called that if all 3 sections came down independently and I think he thought I was taking the p!ss. I thought he was taking the p!ss when he asked me for £2,500 for satnav

I'd expect that. I can't imagine an SUV these days that doesn't come with folding rear seats that split 60/40.

You sure they're not all independant? Did you look at the link in my first post? That's what it seems if you watch the pics that scroll.

No, not sure what I've paid for now, I thought it only allowed one side to come down on its own and if you didn't get it, the whole thing came down in one piece

I have the "40/20/40" rear seat. On my car the passenger side seat can be lowered alone, the center section can be lowered alone, but if you lower the driver's side (left) seat, the center section goes with it. The center section actually locks to a big steel pin that protrudes from the driver's side (left) back rest.

The center section back rest panel also has a fold down armrest/writing desk with two pop-out cup holders that can be "folded" under a folding door arrangement.

The 60/40 seats are standard and the "40/20/40" are a $200 option (in the US) if you don't get them as part of a larger option package.

I think what's being noted is that at no point does it show the seat closest to the viewer coming down by itself. So, you only get 40% on one side.

So, configurations for 40/20/40 are:

UUU
DUU
DDU
DDD
UDU
UDD

but no UUD

where D = down and U = up

I'm glad we got that cleared up! So all permutations are possible except that on one side the seat only goes down with the centre seat attached to it, not on its own.

Also pleased to see UUU is OK
