Will wheels from the X6 fit on to my X3?

Hi guys,
I'm hunting for a second set of wheels to run over the winter and a good friend of mine just sold his X6 and has a set with 19" 212 with winter tires on which I can get for a good price. Any idea on how they will fit?

It seems like they are:

(212) 19x9" ET48
(308) 18x8" ET43 (example, let us know what kind of wheels you have):

Now using the offset calculator it seems like:

Inner Clearance: 18mm MORE (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: RETRACT by 8mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

So I think they may fit, but it is on your own risk. Put them on, and drive for a few kms and then you would know. Check for rubbing when you turn. Also, go for an alignment after swapping.

Ps. What you are trying to do is kinda contradictory of the whole winter wheel thing: you usually go to the lowest size wheel possible (to have the most rubber to cushion against potholes) and to the narrowest possible tire, as those are the most effective in the snow, which I assume you get a lot in Sweden. Just my word of advice.

Almost can guarantee not. X6 wheels are not even interchangable with X5s, and they are essentially the same vehicle. The bore diameter and offsets are very likely different. The X6 also has TWO different bores - front and rear. Do some serious research before you attempt or purchase anything. Talk to a BMW tech if you're not sure.

But they are still 5x120.

Is the hub-centric ring necessary?

At the very least. That is assuming the bore is larger than your hub. In some cases it will be smaller. There have been those who have taken them to a machine shop to have them bored out to fit.

Again, I would strongly advise talking to an expert before making any purchase or attempting the installation. Don't let posts on the Internet be your only source of information. After all.... look how stupid I am!!

Haha thanks guys. I'll have a talk with my tech, although they are more often than not quite conservative in their advice.

Dandanio: Yeah, I know, however I think the 255s would do just fine since they're equipped with the best tires available. Ideally I'd go for 225/235s on 18", but the difference in cost is quite high.

On paper it should work, but I'll do some more research. I'm not that keen to try them on since it would require a 1 000 km drive.

The X6 (and the X5M and X6M) have different hub diameters front and rear. That is not the case with the X3, nor the X5.
So it is not just a question of offset.
