Can't get ipod to work in armrest USB
I thought that the USB port in the arm rest would work with the original white cable and my second gen ipod. This is the video model but I just want it for music. I plug it in and is not recognized. The port does work as it will recognize a USB stick just fine.
Any ideas? Thanks -CR |

Try the BMW Y cable.
I have an older generation Ipod that didn’t work with the Apple White Cable and does with the BMW Y cable. It works fine except that I don’t get album artwork. BTW I have the Technology package. |

I got the technology package and the BMW apps package. Should I have gotten any type of cable with my 35i? I've been using my own Ipod cable and it works fine, but wondered if something should have come with the car.

I didn't get anything with mine. Haven't need it, either. It seems since the items I'm connecting are relatively new, they all work with the current white iPod/iPhone cable.

There are so many posts about this. Tech package Y cable USB
In summary: tech package => only need white Apple USB cable, no tech package => need Y cable which should be supplied if no tech package

I think they only supply the BMW Y cable but it would be nice if they threw in a standard USB cable if you pay for the tech package. They don't of course.

I think the older iPods have a slightly different interface and need "help" from the Y cable but I'm not sure on the technical reasons behind this

Definitely yes in the US. There's another (long) thread about this
