28i 2,200 miles Predominantly city driving (65%)
Avg mileage 19.7 mpg Best gas consumption - 26.5 mpg (night driving on level hwy, with moderate traffic) Worst fuel consumption (not counting the break-in period) - 15.6 mpg (stop and go pure city driving) Looking at the numbers, I am beginning to believe (even if it is counterintuitive) that the 35i's may be getting better average gas mileage than the 28i's!? |

27.0 mpg on trip from North Carolina to NJ - fully loaded with 3 people and a load of college dorm stuff. 73-76 mph and a 30 minute traffic jam on NJTP. I was also switching between gears for break-in.

Funny how 20-25mpg is classed as 'not bad' in the US!! This comes from the days of ultra-cheap fuel I suppose, although I understand that is changing somewhat now over there.
In the UK where we have to pay approx £1.40/litre for diesel/petrol now ($2.24/litre) anything under 35mpg is hardly affordable. My F25 X3 2.0d does around 45mpg on motorways at 75mph and 35mpg on more urban driving, mixture of stop start and 30-50mph stretches. I'm hoping these improve a bit over time as the car has only done 300 miles so far. |

I'm wondering how much difference the non-run flats and the larger (and wider wheels at the back) makes. The price of vanity! I'm surprised it can make that much difference though. Maybe I should get it checked. I will try another motorway run and hold 75mph to double check.

On my 3100 mile trip cross country from South Carolina to Portland Oregon, I averaged between 21 and 27 mpg. We had some heavy duty crosswinds through Kansas and Colorado.

You Americans are crazy! 3,100 mile trip? How long did that take? Must be at least 50 hours driving?
I get a bit light headed after a 120 mile trip from Nottingham to London!!! |

Managed 44 mpg with the loaner 50% on the M4 at a traffic limiting 60-70mph. That was a manual box with 5000 miles on the clock and 18inch wheels.

Don't think anyone on this side of the pond would really contest your statement.
I've done 680 miles in 11 hours in a tiny British sports car with no top (boot), a carbon fiber race seat with no more than 1/4 inch of padding, a suspension with springs 10X stiffer than an X3, an open exhaust system and 10 deg. C. weather and thought it was fun. Clearly must be crazy!! |

I remember a few years ago when I was in Belgium and drove around the whole country in one weekend, visiting every city over 100,000 in the process. I forget what the Flemish word for crazy is, but they certainly used it extensively in describing me. |

Speaking of which, don't forget that the world end's tomorrow so switch off your central heating, electricity and mains water, else you'll have astronomical bills when it restarts
