The new GLC ( former GLK) has seats like this, Bimmer you need to do better in next gen!

The sport seat in my X3 is a real let down, the side bolster really dig in after 2-3 hours.
Have never had an issue with any other sport seats from BMW, and have had a few.

I am considering taking it to a coachmaker and seeing of they can reduce the arch in the bolster slightly.

Pretty much the only thing I don't like about the car, so would be nice to see more seat options next time round.

You are a great (new) contributor to this forum. I thank you. Your replies are accurate and thorough. Sometimes a bit long, but still of high quality.

I agree with nearly 99% of all of these comments and additions. With that being said

42) One thing that I always wished for is better stock OEM tires whether they be RFT or regular. When I leased my X3 35i M, i was shocked that it had Eagle LS2's. I mean can you say embarrassing? GIVE US BETTER RUBBERS on the bigger/faster engines.

43) I know this goes against xDrive. But what about a simple switch that can give you RWD, and then "Auto mode" which is just xDrive. Or is this too complex from a technical standpoint since xDrive is one the best AWD systems in the world.

44) Bigger Pano Roof, my friends Tigaun and Q5 have a nice BIG pano roof, I think roughly 15% bigger, but that is a guess. Can someone find the actual area size of our roof vs. the Audi roof.

45) Launch control for all models not just the big engine

46) Cabin Scent like in the new 7 series

Biggest reason I didn't buy sport seats, terribly tight on me!

Thank you for the additional suggestions, everyone, and for the kind comments, Crash. Hopefully BMW Design & Engineering have found these to be of some help as they prepare for the G01 launch.

I have begun a new project which attempts to develop acceleration data and graphs for our X3 with all engine types (including the proposed 40i and X3 M models coming in the G01). Although I learned a lot from the 'Horsepower & Speed - the graph' thread ( http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1004702 ), which looked at HP requirements at constant speed, these acceleration calculations are proving to be far more complex, and after a few weeks of effort, I'm not sure how much success I'll have. If I can get it to work, I should then be able to change variables such as weight (probably 200 lbs less curb weight in the G01?), Cd (which I hope will be more in the 0.32 range), and even road grade. If it looks like I'm getting reasonbable numbers, we can compare with real 1/4 mile times many of you have run in your own X3s to validate. These charts could help clarify the discussion we had in Mako's thread about the MB GLC AMG ( http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1140899 ), as to how HP can affect acceleration (even with varying altitude and road grades).

I'll start a new thread to share results when/if I get it completed.

A brief update on the simulation model I'm working on...

It would appear the construct produced thus far is reasonably sound across different models. Minimal deviations from bmwusa.com and bmw.com on 0-100 km/hr and 0-60 mph times, top end speeds agree very well, and 1/4 mile times seem reasonable, and overall trends agreement is present between the 20i, 20d, 28i, and 35i with the data available provided by the folks at 'automobile catalog', with whom I have no financial (or otherwise) association - http://www.automobile-catalog.com/ .

Like a child awaiting a present it is difficult to stop working on this project to see how the data unfolds, so I had to run the numbers on the proposed 'M' as if built to our current weights and Cd (0.35). Top end speed if not limited reaches 165 mph even in our current non-aerodynamic Cd of 0.35, and the acceleration numbers are likewise impressive.

This project, much like my previous HP and Speed project, is amateurish compared with professional software availabe. But as I, and I suspect many of you, do not have access to such, we can at least have a model to see how our next gen X3 might be expected to perform. And the advantage is that this can approximate performance at altitudes to 4000m, grades to 7%, and variances of unladen in kg and Cd. And although this attempts to model Resistance due to aerodynamics, drag, and roll, it is clear I need to study more about tire coefficients of drag which have been estimated, but are most assuredly outdated compared with current tire technology.

I will continue to work on this as time allows, but there is no doubt the G01 models with the added 40i and the M, coupled with the interior improvements which must be coming to stay competitive with the other brands, will keep BMW in the mix for the high performance SAV genre in which our X3 resides.

47) A better bolstered rear view mirror, whenever I listen to music a little louder, the rear view mirror vibrates and its quite noticeable and annoying

48) Fix the panoramic moonroof squeaking issue

49) Give us higher quality and SOFTER leather or at least an option to do so

50) Completely remove plastic from the bumper, even from the base models

51) Add an option in iDrive that automatically closes the side mirrors when locking the car

I have a question, when does the next generation X3 come out? Is it a 2017 model that comes out late 2016 or a 2018 model that comes out late 2017? Because my lease ends late 2017 and I'm wondering if i'll have an old X3 for a year or not . Also, I thought they updated their cars every 4 years? Like second generation 2011, LCI 2015, and I thought the 3rd generation would be a 2019 but online many sources say 2017. Im confused haha.

Best guess is 2018 model that will be available 2 years from now. Generally LCI is +4 years and new model is 3 more after that for a total of 7 years between generations.

There are always exceptions and oddly short or long model years before the change. Example is the 2016 5-series will be manufactured for 16 months and then the new generation comes out late in 2016. But last time around they delayed the U.S. release and made a short run of 2010 old generation for the U.S.

Through my brain, the average is every 6 years for a brand new model/chassis number, etc. LCI every 3 years but many are 4 years also. The new X3 would be a 6 year Diff in terms of the model year. 2011 F25 was available for retail around Mid august 2010. Now the new platform release will most likely be late July 2016 for the 2017 model. 12,13,14,15,16,17 = 6 years. But yes it may seem like 7 years because they release the car 4-5 months earlier

Having no experience with off-road vehicles I am curious what changes/additions BMW would have to make to our X3s to certify them 'trail-rated'? I can imagine stronger shocks, different tires, higher clearance, puncture protection underneath, more coolant capability, different gear ratios perhaps? Anything else? And if so, how difficult would it be for them to provide this as an optional package? It seems like it would be an interesting choice for them to allow the X3 to be competitive in a broader range.

Softer springs
Softer sway bar

Essentially, delete the exceptional road-handling capabilities of the X3.

So... It's not going to happen, I hope. I'll buy a Wrangler for that. You can't have a rock crawler that excels in the twisties- they are polar opposites!

Greetings, jt2. Many on this forum are really looking forward to the introduction of the G01 2017 X3-M as you are, but because we already knew one was going to be introduced in the G01 series, many did not feel it needed to be on the 'Wish List'. Scott26, who appears to have some connection to BMW (I apologize I do not know in which capacity), indicated in his thread '2017 - Bmw X3 (g01)' on 29 Jun 2014 at 06:53 PM, that it, 'will finally arrive in full M model...'.

To whet your appetite for what it should be able to accomplish when released, I have already run some simulation numbers for its acceleration curves in the thread '!X3 Acceleration Files - Master List!' at http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1149189 . I ran the models for if it was built in our current LCI frame, and then also as it should perform in the G01 iteration (with an improved Cd of only 0.32 and about 100 kg less). Even in the Simulation model (C), in which I have it travelling up a mountainside at 3000 m elevation with a 6% grade and 500 kg max load in our current LCI frame, it still hits 148 mph top speed and the quarter mile in 14.6 sec. In this construct, the G01 on level plane, unladen, and at sea level should hit 0-60 mph in 4.6 sec or less, 1/4 mile around 13 sec or less, and have a top speed unlimited of 170 mph. It is going to be an amazing X3 for sure (and I wouldn't doubt they probably already have a waiting list).

Hi Max,

I had indeed not inferred from reading the thread that the //M model was as close to being firm as it might seem. If true, that is great news.

I'll admit that I haven't been following this forum very closely in the last couple of years since the focus of discussion frankly wasn't that performance-oriented. Somewhat understandable, since it is an SUV and all. My comment reflected that observation I suppose as much as the lack of voices wanting the //M.

The simulations you've done are very impressive. Have you considered plugging in the tested horsepower numbers for the current M3 (assuming that the rumors are true that the X3M will use that powerplant)?
