Acoustic Parking Sensor Lag

Does anybody else find that the acoustic warning on the parking sensors has a bit of a lag on it?

I have owned several cars over the years with reverse parking sensors and never had a problem with them, but on the X3 I find I have to reverse very slowly to allow the acoustic sensor to catch up. Otherwise it suddenly jumps from no beeps to a flat line, or very near, which is not particularly reassuring when you are reversing a £35k car.

I wonder whether it is a general problem with the system or a specific issue with my build (November 2012).

I use that feature quite a lot and have not noticed the lag you mention.

Potentially another issue for the dealer to look at then. When was your X3 built?

No lag on mine - it does go crazy when my wife walks in front while I'm backing up.

Lol. You can reduce the lag time by SLOWING down. No more Batman park jobs.

BMW's beeeep system isn't trustworthy anyway. Doesn't react in a timely fashion to challenging obstacle geometries and materials.

Have noticed the same lag as you describe - the good side effect is that it forces you to take it cool when manouvering in tight spaces ;-)
But seriously, I agree that it is annoying. I experienced the same issue in a 5-series F11 so I thought it was a default setting...

For me it's not just that they are slower, there is actually a bit of a lag which misleads you. You think you are fine because there is no beep at all and then suddenly it jumps to very frequent beeps and a flat line.

I have never seen the point of the reverse cameras on other vehicles but it appears on BMW they are useful to replace the poorly designed reverse parking sensors.

Maybe something they can solve with a s/w update,... if enough people complain?
