You get free limited use of BMW connectivity for 4 years in US. With this you can call BMW during emergencies. You can use Google to send Locations to your car, you can use BMW remote. Internet is not allowed for Google Searches on car. If you want slow Internet for using google search for addresses, you need to sign annual contract of 199.

Most importantly for $199 you get a personal concierge. That team will send addresses to your Nav unit for you, send you phone numbers, assist with restaurants, hotels, airlines, etc. they are great and to me worth the money. I am in the car a lot.

I don't think it is negotiable. That being said...worth a shot.

I am not sure it BMW Hotspot is available for 2011 and 2012 X3s or recent X3s.
Looking at the speed of internet provided by the BMW Assist, I believe it may not be worth for WiFi unless they go for 3G or higher. All the iPhone users have 3G currently and will not need additional WiFi support at that low speed internet inside the car. Yes, it may be needed for iPads if people do not have tehering enabled phone. On the otherside I was wondering how can I use phone internet in iDrive of car which is not available in US. BMW site says that it can be easily retrofitted: BMW Car Hotspot. The Wi-Fi hotspot for your BMW lets passengers and rear-set passengers go on the Internet even on the road. The only thing needed is a Wi-Fi-enabled device. Online anywhere and anytime with the Wi-Fi hotspot for the road: the BMW Car Hotspot – an option from Original BMW Accessories that can be retro-fitted to your vehicle – allows passengers to surf the Internet with their smartphone, iPad or laptop even as the car is travelling. The only equipment required is a device that enables a Wi-Fi connection. A stable online connection with near-100-percent coverage is provided by an automatic, interruption-free transfer between UMTS and GSM networks, which is supported by the usage of the vehicle’s external antenna. In addition, the usage of the BMW Car Hotspot reduces the amount of radiation in the vehicle’s interior and extends the device’s battery life. The Hotspot can be quickly and easily installed via the snap-in adapter in the centre console armrest. This option can only be used in combination with a data SIM card or a mobile phone with a SAP connection (SIM Access Profile). Last edited by April1; 07-06-2012 at 08:40 PM.. |
