This was from using eco-pro 95% of the time over 2 weeks on 1 tank of fuel, roughly 55% highway/45% city-urban.

I saved a hair over 1 gallon on this tank. Practically nothing ($3.65) but still kinda cool nonetheless.

I have gotten similar results while I break in the engine, keeping RPMs below 4500.

You mention that @55% of your driving was highway. Was it at @55 mph or 55mph +?

55-65 MPH

City/urban roughly 15-35 MPH with excessive stop signs/lights

I've been getting really crappy MPG (20) for my city driving. I basically sit in traffic for an hour a day. I tried switching to ECO PRO but I really HATE how the car drives in Eco. I press the gas and it sorta shudders and jerks forward. I wish I had enough patience to actually test this out!

BTW I have a 2014 28i so that may be the reason its jerky. I wish now that I had a diesel and that would really save me $$.

Haha, I tried the same thing but ran out of patience. If I have to stomp on the gas to get anywhere, I'm probably not saving a dime.

It certainly requires that you learn/adapt to a different driving style. If you try and drive like you normally would in comfort or sport mode, I can see how crippling Eco Pro would feel.

This was a great test over the course of 1 tank of fuel and a few weeks. I learned a lot about the system. I won't always use EP, after all I specifically bought another BMW after my latest round in a Benz. However, I love that this tech is here and it does save a little fuel, never a bad thing!

I use ecopro strictly on the highway. 65 mph. 25-26 mpg. 2014 x3 35i

By using Ecopro in my 2.0d I usually get around 53mpg, driving in comfort mode I usually achieve 47mpg so the benefits are around 10%. Yes it is more sluggish but as others have said you have to drive in a different way to achieve the benefits in Ecopro mode. I only tend to use it on motorways.

Out of interest, have you tried driving a similar style to Eco-Pro, while in Comfort mode to see what the real difference in mpg is between the modes?

Clearly if drivers adapt their driving to suit Eco-Pro mode, then we'd expect better economy. Same as a driver using economy techniques will extend the mpg range, without any need for modes.

Reason I ask this, I used a 320d ED for three days and driving in a similar manner for both Eco-Pro or Comfort, the indicated mpg was very similar. I preferred Comfort mode, even driving for economy, as you don't have to cope with the 'elastic' throttle response.

What kind of gallon? Imperial?

That is still better than I'm seeing. I'm on a road trip now, with just over 2000 miles on my 2015 diesel, and I got just over 36 mpg on my last fillup with highway driving (about 70mph). The best I've seen. Mostly ecopro too.

I managed to get just under 30 miles saved on a tankfull in Eco Pro mode.
I only use it on Motorway. (did not get a photo)

Question: When I switch to Eco-Pro the graphic shows only rear wheels being driven. Is it really in 2WD mode in Eco Pro?

We managed 40mpg @ 70mph over 1200 last winter (not ecopro) that included a run at 130mph on autobahn. Using a .833 conversion factor would give yours at over 43mpg so thats seems pretty good to me. (edit - this is wrong - should be using a 1.2 factor will give 33.4mpg (us) - so your is a bit better @ 36mpg (us) )

I would be interested in seeing what I would get if I repeated a route I made last spring in my car when I had a 10+ year high in gas mileage. The same speeds on the same roads, and going down from 10,000+ feet to 5000 feet over 500 miles. But I don't have the time available to do that

And differences in usage of AC may go into that. And I'm just over 3000 miles in my car. Will it improve any more? I know my first several hundred miles were pretty bad.

In October I'll be making an 11 hour each way trip to Illinois. I'll see how that goes.

Since the imperial gallon is larger than the US gallon, I think the conversion factor is the other way. So rather than 43 mpg, it would be about 33-34 mpg (US).

I find that I can pretty much get the same MPG in comfort mode as Eco Pro mode if I just go gentle on the accelerator.

I just drove from eastern Washington on Sunday and was averaging 30.3 MPG until I got caught in stop and go traffic on I 90. 304 miles ended up with 28.5 mpg avg. I have a 2013 X3 3.5 M sport that I keep in the "manual" mode.

Oh I wish BMW would stop destroying the brand.... no BMW should have an "Eco" mode and owners should not drive them to best optimize MPG. Everytime I get a loaner and see that button I want to smash it LOL. Hell will definitely be frozen over if that button ever makes it way to an M car.

Wish they would make that button a deletable option... oh also I would like an option package that has hydraulic steering not drive by wire...

All manufacturers (not just BMW or the Germans) MUST comply with the mandated CAFE standards by 2016. The average fuel economy for cars must improve from the current 27.5 mpg, where it has been since 1990, to 37.8 mpg by 2016. The truck standard has to rise from 23.5 mpg to 28.8. This pertains to the manufactures entire vehicle line average MPG.

This may help to shed light on the "why" BMW (and pretty much all other manufacturers) are implementing gas-saving and MPG-increasing technology, features, engines, etc. This is precisely why the 28i four cylinder engine is now a more efficient, if not more powerful/useable engine, than the outgoing 28i inline 6.

Because of this "button" and increased MPG across the entire BMW line-up, we may just continue to see our beloved M cars with the power we're accustomed to. Without such tech implementations, I'm afraid those M car days would be over as we've known them.

I don't think eco pro makes any difference on the highway... I just did a family trip to DC... fully loaded with 4 adults my 35i got 8.8L/100km (26.7 us mpg - 32.1 uk mpg) to DC and 9.4L/100km (25 us mpg - 30uk mpg) from Baltimore. (about 1000km each way). Average speeds were 62.1 mph there and 59.6 mph return.

Typical speeds were 100-130km/h.

Sorry, I didn't us eco-pro at all... I did take advantage of sport mode a fair bit. (used sport mode, regular suspension settings and stuck the shifter in sport mode... manually set 8th gear. Great for roll-on passing)
