Ordered winter tire package Wednesday - snow tomorrow?

I decided to beat the rush and order my winter tire and wheel package from TireRack on Wednesday. It arrived yesterday, and there's the possibility of snow in tomorrow's forecast. I didn't think I'd need them so soon!

TireRack has the distribution down to a science. I talked to Ben a little after 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday afternoon the mounted tires and wheels were at my door. My local tire shop can't get them that fast!

I bought 17" Blizzak WS-70s on silver Rial Salerno wheels. I'll post pictures when I mount them. I'll probably wait a few weeks and take my chances with the all seasons tomorrow.

I live in Maryland - we may have a few inches, although i suspect i'm not far enough north/west to see anything stick. Part of me is totally ready to see how my X3 does in the snow, and part of me thinks its a month too soon.

No snow forecasted for my area in the near future, but plenty coming this winter according to this forecast from one of our local meteorologists.

Grand Rapids -- 89 inches

Kalamazoo -- 76 inches

Holland -- 98 inches

I live between Grand Rapids and Holland, so should order my snow tires soon.

Winter tires on already so bring it! No snow in my area but definitely getting chilly. Don't think I will be able to wear a hoody anymore. Back to my North Face jacket.

Can you give more detail on the wheels and the pricing you got?

I went to tirerack.com and looked up winter wheel and tire packages for the car. I went with the WS-70 tire because I wanted the best snow and ice traction. They surveys seemed to indicate that this is the tire I should have. I'll be making trips to northern Vermont this winter, so this was important. I would have probably chosen a different tire if I was staying here in NJ - probably one with better dry handling and noise qualities. I got 225 17-60 size. Again, I'm looking for maximum snow and ice "bite" and I know I'll give up some handling.

The Rial Salernos looked pretty good in the pictures, and I think they're even better in real life. They're a pretty simple 5 spoke pattern. They'll be easy to keep clean. I ordered TPMS sensors.

I ordered the package Wednesday, and it was all at my door on Thursday - mounted and balanced. Total cost, including shipping, was under $1,400. I have at least 2 sets of wheels and tires for most of my cars, and I've had good experience with TireRack. My biggest problem is that I'm running out of room for all the winter and track tires that I've collected over the years!

You'll be fine with all seasons this weekend. We're not going to get enough snow to really require a true snow tire. However, I was planning a trip to PA today that I think I'm cancelling because I need to take the X5 and it's still wearing its summer tires. Due to the temperature and possibility of driving on snow/ice, that would just be foolish.

Agree on Tire Rack though, they do provide excellent service. A friend of mine in PA also got next day delivery on a recent purchase. Last time I bought tires from them, they were great.

Good decision - sounds like they are getting nailed with snow as I type!

I think I miscalculated on this one. It's already snowing like mad here in central Jersey and a large branch has fallen on my house and bent my gutter. It's going to get ugly around here.

At least I'll have a baseline to compare my Blizzaks to - if I can dig them out of the snow.

You guys must pee yourselves laughing when we have our "snow storms" here in the mid atlantic. I used to live in Grand Forks, ND so I do have a basis for comparison.

Problem here is two things: the incredible high volume of traffic, and the lack of equipment and process to deal with it. Oh, and add to that people who don't have any idea how to drive on frozen surfaces.
