Speedometer

Way back yonder when I had a 335i, it was common for the speedometers on BMWs to read about 3 mph faster than actual speed. Is that still the case?

As others have commented, BMW speedometers typically read 2 to 3 mph above actual speed at 60 mph. This is because BMW engineers its vehicles to meet applicable European Union regulations.

https://www.thrillist.com/cars/your-...-japanese-cars

"The European Union requires adherence to UN ECE Regulation 39. It’s a lot of math, but the simple version is that no speedometer can read slower than the actual speed. Ever."

Good read MM. Way back when I bought my N54 335i, I checked the speed against my Garmin (you guys remember those things don't you) and the indicated speed was 3 mph faster than Garmin said it was. Other BMW owners at the time bore witness and long time owners said it was a BMW thing. Now we know why.
