Year 2021, how many miles on your N20?
it's been 10 years since the F25 N20 X3 was released on the market. How many miles on your N20? I have mine in the shop getting the timing chain and oil pump chain replaced, now i'm contemplating if i should keep it or sell it. I currently have 93k on my 2013.

I am third owner of a 2013 N20 X3. Previous owner suffered a catastrophic engine failure, worked a 60/40 deal with BMW and replaced the engine. Then sold the vehicle to me. Completely crazy decision as he invested the money for the repair and then lost faith. But the repair was done.
Similar to the OP here, you are replacing the timing chain and oil pump chain. Just do the other maintenance (coolant pump, thermostat, trans fluid, diff fluids, transfer case fluid, ...) and keep it. You don't have to worry as much about a timing chain/oil starvation issue. I would think if you had planned to sell it you should have done that before you did the timing chain. I heard from BMW that the oil pump has also been modified since 2013. If you are already there... |

Wife's 2016 X3, took Delivery November 2015, currently has just under 32k miles on it. Put less than 800 miles on it over the last 10 months due to WFH.

Around 85k miles on our 2016. Taking it tomorrow to the dealer to have a whining noise checked out that comes and goes depending on whether or not the A/C is on. It's still under CPO wrap until 9/30/21.
A/C clutch, tensioner pulley? |

I have bit of 'whine' on my car when a/c turned on. I'll be curious to know what your Dealer says. I did DIY PM of my serpentine belt and tensioner/pulley a year ago; that had no effect on the whine I'm hearing. Keep us posted! Thanks/Bill fyi...my car at 89K miles. |

I have a 2013 (delivered 8/2012) with 69K miles.
The car has had it's turbo lines, thermostat and water pump replaced. If I understand the timing chain class action settlement correctly, my warranty will be extended by 1 year from the settlement date. I was thinking of selling the car during the summer. How much did the shop quote you for this work ? |

F25 N20 engine
Currently have 97k miles on my 2013 X3. I had my timing chain and associated plastic guide (as I understand it, the guide was the bigger problem than the actual chain was) replaced in Nov 2017 at 74K miles. It was out of warranty at the time, but this was a known issue by BMW. I managed to get "some" help (courtesy repair assistance) but it still cost me over $1400 for the repair. I recently received a letter in the mail concerning the class action lawsuit and IF I supply enough data, I MIGHT be able to get some financial relief concerning that repair.
Here is another thing to watch for... another known issue on the N20 engine.... IF you suddenly start blowing blue smoke on start-up, you likely have a leak in the oil feed line to the turbo charger.... After some slightly heated hassle and wrangling with the BMW dealer, BMW NA finally agreed to repair under an extended warranty condition. Note: Not ALL N20 engines are are covered under the extended warranty. See service bulletin SI B11 11 16 for information. So...Now my original factory battery is starting to fail... so I am in search of a real 105Ah battery. (That is the OEM size H9). Other than perhaps the dealer, I cannot locate one. The closest I can find here in North Alabama is 100Ah (H9). Perhaps I can code the change, but the Android BimmerCode app does not list a "100Ah" battery as an option. Thoughts? |

I had quotes, installed, for my replacement battery at 2 different BMW dealerships last year. 1 for over $525. The other was under $270 (tax included). For the BMW brand 105Ah battery. So it may not be all that much more expensive to go the BMW brand route. Especially if you don't need them to install it.
