I just got my X3 and have two minor complaints.
Why does a 54K vehicle come with cheap albeit "free" floor mats with no logo but BMW packaged and why is the dual exhaust tip only have one working tip? The mats from BMW are ok but I'm used to the nice carpeted ones with rubber backing and stitched logo's. The exhaust tips look nice but pretty funny only one is functioning.

The second exhaust tip works just fine, just not all of the time.

See Post No. 9 on this thread if you want both exhaust paths to operate all the time.
Warning, the car will be substantially louder all of the time. The dual path exhaust is there to keep the noise down most of the time, but to allow efficient operation of the turbocharger as needed. Re: Cheap Floor mats: My 2011 came with NO floor mats and the car already has BMW logos on the front, rear, door-sills and the steering wheel. Seven reminders it's a "BMW" is enough already! I know it's a BMW (as does anyone riding in it) and don't have to also read the floor mats to confirm that fact. Of course that's just personal preference, there are people who put 6 inch high BMW decals on the top of their windshields to let the world know they're driving a Bimmer. I feel like a winey little bitch!
I guess I should have researched the exhaust tip better. Thanks for that. I'm afraid I've fallen into the everything has to have BMW on it. It's like I've joined a cult and been brainwashed. The overhead lights were flashing at the dealership and the tv in the reception area was rapidly showing images and words. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

We received the BMW carpeted mats with our X3 and the driver's mat does include the BMW logo. That said, the BMW all weather mats are much better.

It is totally ignored in the owner's manual, but then again, so are many other interesting facts about the X3s. That's the beauty of this international forum. You can get an education, complements, criticism, and even opinions about what color car you should have picked. It's all free and worth every penny. The 35i does have one truly "phony" feature and that's the completely cosmetic inner "headlights". They have the LED daytime running lights in both positions, but there is no headlight system there at all, nor is there any way to add them. The space behind the lens contains two large electronics connectors. The outer projector lamp is used for both low and high beams. |
