Waiting to go into production..

Has anyone experienced a prolonged amount of waiting time for the car order to actually send that car into production.. I have been waiting 3 weeks for it to move from "receive order waiting to be sent to production" to production and still nothing..i already have the production number but it seems to be taking forever.

Hey, I'm in NY, and just recently received my new X3 28i. The whole process took under 1 month for me. If you made any changes or adjustments to your order after it was placed, it could delay it, but by 3 weeks time, the car should be on it's way to completion. Have you tried calling 1-800-831-1117 and checking your status that way? Often times the phone system update is more updated than website. Also, if you can't get anywhere that way, contact your dealer, they should have more detailed information.

Your dealer doesn't appear to have an allocated build slot. No allocated slot, no production. This late in the month, you may be destined for August production.

Yup. For my '11 it was 5-6 weeks from the time the order was placed until production. Time to call the dealer. Ask them what your build week is. They should know.

Wait times this year seem to be about half of what they were last year. But really, ask your dealer about a build week.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. My dealer changed a production order from a car they had awaiting build and gave BMW my specs, colors, etc. They started production that same day. I ordered the car on Monday and drove it home the following Tuesday. I am in Atlanta and ordered from Global Imports. Guess the transportation time was quick too being that Atlanta isn't all that far from Spartanburg. Sorry to all who have to wait, but it is well worth it. Btw I was quoted 4 weeks initially and didn't believe my salesman when he called to say the car was being backed off the transport truck!

I doubt your salesman story, there's no way you can change specs while car's on the line or even a couple days before, they must have had one your specs already on order, and they gave you this whole song and dance.

I received production number and tracked it. Changed immediately from a black base model 3.5 on my first login (their order) to my white loaded 3.5 overnight and ran from there so yeah, it was legit.

Well your doubting wrong because until the car goes in to production you are allowed to change any spec.

I've done this on BMWs, Audis and Mercs.

Most recently dealer told me he had a X3 on order and I could change it to my specs before it hit production and i eventually ended up taking a 30d they had on stock.

It shouldn't take more then 4 weeks I think, since the cars are built in SC.
