Rear Seat Belt Query

Hi, First post

We had a UK test drive in early Jan. Liked the car but had a query about the seat belts that the sales people still haven't answered.

We had 3 in the back and the problem was with the middle belt. The buckle (female) connector seems to be set flush with the seat. When the tongue (male part) is located the room to actually sit in is very narrow and digs in. Particularly as it then angles in to the middle. On other models the buckle is often on a small strap that allows some adjustment or give. As far as I can see this does not exist. Has anyone else seen this as a problem or is there any solution? We don't often need the middle seat but when we do I'd like the seat to be comfortable. Do any of the different split seat combos make any difference?

Sorry, no.

The seat buckles (female) are integrated in the seat, with little adjustment/movement possible.

The lower seat does not move - just the upright section folds - regardless of the 60:40 vs 40:20:40 option.

The car is only really comfortable for x3 in the back for short journeys (or small people). If x3 is important I would suggest something like a Renault Espace, Fiat Multipla (BMW still has not really made a mid size MPV - bet lots of Dad's would love BMW if they did).

Thanks for the reply. Seems a bit strange of BMW to do this particularly as the X5 has more extension in its buckle. It is not particularly something we would use a lot just seems a bit of an annoyance in a £40K (inc options) car. Sitting forward slightly seemed to pretty much fix the issue so maybe the addition of a £10 cushion would save the day !

Several companies make vehicle-specific seatbelt extensions which possibly could help.
Hemco is one of the larger seatbelt companies.
Don't know if they have one for the current X3, but they did make one for the first gen model. See:
