x3 thermostat replacement

Here are some pics of main thermostat replacement.

I had a lot of problems with dpf and high consumption. Looks much better after replacement.

I have always said that thermostats should be part of the service, replaced every 5 years at least, especially on diesels.

A 'stat that only gets to 80ºc instead of 92ºc will use up to 25% more fuel as the car uses the temperature to control fuel mixture, and when it thinks it is not up to temperature it over fuels. Think old fashioned choke.
More more importantly the DPF will never regenerate unless the car gets to full temperature, so 90% of DPF failures are due to faulty 'stats.
