X3 2012 F25 - What coding diag tool should I get?
My first BMW ever. Bought 2nd hand from a friend who had it from new.
Already ordered the 12.3" screen from Droid which should hopefully be here next week, before I drive to France. There are some options I want to tweak, like fold mirrors on lock, so I do not have to hold the button down. I have a close friend who has a MAC scanner tool, could this perform coding also to make simple changes? I know he tweaked something on my Audi when it had an issue. Other than that, I have been looking at Carly, Ista D plus others. I do not speak German and need something simple ish and reliable. If I had a £1,000 I would get something like the Autel, but I don't! Recommendations, please TIA Paul. |

Bimmercode for the coding for sure. Simple to use in basic mode and just downloads to your phone. You need a Bluetooth adapter to plug into your OBDII port. Get one Bimmercode recommends. I have the VeePeak. As for diagnostics, it depends on how deep into it you want to get. ISTA is the best but the learning curve is steep. I have Bimmerlink, which uses the same adapter as Bimmercode. Bimmerlink is very useful for a lot of things. Reading battery voltage, reading live tranny temps, which is necessary if you change tranny fluid, registering a new battery, reading/clearing all codes from every control unit, etc. But it still does not do many things ISTA can do, like setting the parameters for new fuel injectors. But for the $35 or so US it costs, it's well worth it.

Ordered the ODBLINK CX from Gendan, cheaper than Amazon.
Again, thanks for the input. P. |

Sorry I have both Bimmercode and bimmerlink... And have recently upgraded to the full license of PRO TOOL... It spanks the shyt out of everything else out there and If I had to do it again it's the only tool I'd own, other than my full MHD license and tune, which btw if you plan to ever get MHD and time your truck, get their wifi obdii adaptor now to go with PRO TOOL(It works flawlessly) and that way you'll have it if you ever get MHD...
Pro tools does things my $500+ Autel scan tool can't. |
