Extra option package For X3 - pls help
Hi,
This is my first post. I am in the process of placing my order for the new 2011 X3 xDrive35i. In my country, the standard configuration for this model from BMW comes with a 6.5" LCD on the dashboard for accessing iDrive functions and a 12 speaker BMW HiFi sound system. I have seen some models in overseas comes with the larger 8.8" LCD and asked to upgrade to this larger LCD. However, my BMW dealer told me this is not possible to just upgrade the LCD. In order to change to the larger LCD, I will have to purchase the so called "professional multimedia" package that will include besides the 8.8" LCD, also the BMW Professional Sound system with 16 speakers, build in DVD player and 12GB hard disk. I cannot just upgrade the LCD. And the extra cost is about USD10K more. Somehow, I think the dealer is not telling me the correct picture. Has anyone upgraded the LCD from 6.5" to 8.8" and is it true I have to sign up for this package? I really want the larger 8.8" screen but I don't think I need the 16 speaker system, the DVD player/hard disk and the added cost that comes with it. Appreciate any advice. Thanks. |

The dealer would seem to be correct. In Canada, no larger screen without the Tech/Nav pkg.

Yes, USD10k for this option. I was shocked when I heard it. I am not sure how BMW price their options and packages but it might differ significantly from country to country. I was told my request was not a common one. Most folks here think the 6.5" LCD is more than enough. Will I be missing anything that the BMW iDrive program can't provide in this smaller screen?

8.8" is cool, but i would not pay 10k for that and premium sound. It also depends on how much you are using bluethooth/cell phone and everything related to that. |

Do you mind checking for me how much extra this package will cost in Canada? Just for comparison. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Ben Lee; 06-11-2011 at 11:59 AM.. |

In the UK you need the professional multimedia package in order to get the larger screen (there is no standalone option) but there is no requirement to order upgraded speakers as well. I have this package and business speakers instead of the more expensive pro speakers
Pro mm package is about £2500GBP from memory and pro speakers £900GBP. Sounds like you're being quoted more than double this. Probably due to very high tax and/or import duty
