really drove the x3

having watched the topgear vid, the thoughts begs, anyone here really driven the x3? I mean I drive like a little old man, which I am, and barely touch the cars capability. I am just wondering if anyone has really pushed the car, like in a skid pad or slalom or really worked it hard and what were the results? I dont expect ferrari, but I would expect some pretty decent handling from it under pressure. Just curious.

I did. At the factory around their racetrack. I was very impressed that it handled so well. And FYI, my other car is a Boxster, one of the best handling cars, that I drive at the racetrack several times a year.

So yeah, the x3 is phenomenal for what it is.

long and short is that the mercedes is the smallest, the bmw is slightly larger inside yet tighter in the cabin than the q5. bmw is most expensive; the old one was uncomfortable and ungainly to drive. mercedes based on a truck platform is at home in the dirt. the mercedes comes in third q5 second bmw first (based in part because it is brand new and the q5 is showing its age)

How do you arrange the PCD experience? What's it cost?

I've had some memorable fast road drives but I still have to try it off road or in snow.

I guess I will know in a month or so

If you want to see what the X3 can do, order yours for PCD. It is impressive what this car can do on the track and then off road.

Don't you just wish you could take your X3 down to the nearest sand quarry and rag it around like in the German video posted above. I'd just be constantly worrying about stone chips

Just ask your dealer when you order your car. It doesn't cost anything additional. The only thing is you have to get yourself to Spartenburg. They pick you up at the airport, feed you dinner, put you up in a hotel, and take you to the Performance Center. Once there, you do a half day at the center where you have fun on the track and take delivery of your car. There's also a plant tour. At the end of the day, you drive your new car home.

It's a great time and highly recommended.

@ ernesthouse, above is on point. very much worth it and highly recomended. we drove the snott out of an x3 at the track, and drove it off road. the car is very capable in all conditions. read my very in depth review of the PCD experience here: http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12898734
