Run flats and UK tyre insurance

Has anyone got or does anyone plan to get tyre insurance for their run flats in the UK? I thought about it and then decided against it and now I’m having second thoughts. Some people have recommended this company http://www.car2cover.co.uk/Tyre-Insurance and said they’ll replace up to 5 tyres in a 3 year period with each tyre costing up to £300. The policy was £299 but not got an up to date quote. I also noticed that you can only get a policy from them up to 14 days after you buy the car which rules me out, but there are other companies and policies.

Also, are you more likely to get a puncture with run flats than with standard tyres? I’ve not had a puncture that needed immediate repair on any of my last 3 cars spanning about 10 years. If you are more likely, aren’t they a contradiction, i.e. they protect you against what happens when you get a puncture, but it make it more likely that you will.

Sytner have stopped offering the BMW insurance, I have asked on two occasions and it's been explained to me it's not worht the dealership offering the insurance, Which makes me suspect that they have been losing money on it. I'm looking for insurance.

I wasn't offered BMW insurance for tyres but then again I didn't ask either. £299 is a good deal if you get more than 1 puncture in three years I suppose. I assume it's this

http://bmwprotect.co.uk/Static/TyreInsurance

I've heard that you also have contact the insurer to pre-authorise before paying or getting the tyre replaced which has caught people out and I'm not sure what happens if there isn't 24 hour authorisation and you need the tyre replaced outside normal business hours.

Cheers W3ege, I'd be happy if you could pass on the details. I have run flats spec'd at the moment and maybe they will look at it different. I bought from Sytner Newport, I will try Cardiff but I can't see them doing any favours as I turned down their offer on the X3 in favour of Newport!.

The quote was from Bateman BMW in Grange over Sands. They gave me the booklet when I ordered. Ad mentioned by sfax, you can claim 5 times in 3 years due to accidental or malicious damage. Not sure about the authorization as I haven't got the full policy wording. Will be annoyed if they don't honour the quote when the car comes in 2020!

I wonder if there is anything to stop you suspiciously getting 1 puncture in each tyre at about the time you are due to replace them anyway due to wear.....

Which opens up another interesting point. If you get a puncture on a worn tyre, you'd have to replace both left and right to keep the tread even. I guess you'd be covered for one but not the other and you'd effectively get an early half price tyre change.

Good point. I'd normally chuck the spare on and consign the part worn tyre to the boot. But no spare! One puncture, two tyres! Eeek!

was quoted 350 earlier today but dropped to 280 which i took up... considering each tyre cost 200 and i've had to replace 3 run flats in the past 2yrs, it was an ok decision to make..
