Problems refueling

Just dropped by Tesco to fill up. My wife had a 5p a litre off voucher so I thought I run the car down to around 50 miles then stick a tank load and save a few quid. When I tried to fill up the nozzle wouldn't enter the tank as normal as the spring loaded plate wouldn’t open. I thought the plate had jammed so I drove straight to a dealership. The receptionist had obviously heard of the problem as she finished my explanation of the problem for me.
The service desk was great and told me to use another station as the nozzle at Tesco was obviously not wide enough to activate the pressure plates to allow fuel to enter the tank. So it seems if you’re on vapours and stop at a station with nozzles that are not of a certain size, hard luck. This surely needs to be rectified.

I've experienced this at some gas stations too, it usually tends to be the older pumps that have this problem.

Interesting and a bit of a worry. I've never experienced this and coincidentally when I took delivery of my X3, I was promised a full tank of fuel and it wasn't full so the dealer drove me to a Tesco to fill up. Could have been a disastrous start!

Urk! I filled up at Tescos yesterday and was fine, but very useful to know.. so I won't let it run down to almost empty .. just in case!

When you open the filler cap there does seem to be a fair amount of suction. My usual solution of a spare can is unlikely to help here. Not looking forward to coming across this problem. Wonder what the cure might be (is that Lotus I hear typing already?)!

Happens all the time in one of my older Bimmer (e46). It hasn't happened with the recent crops. You can use you fingers to push the flap open and loosen it up. Just be patient, it will eventually go in. Longest time I was standing there for 10 minutes trying to get the nozzle in.

WA?

WA is the biggest state in Australia, but Beyu must be from the USofA as we dont have any gas stations here.

We only sell petrol.

maps.google.com will tell you WA is Washington but no doubt maps.google.com.au will yield Western Australia. I think the gas/petrol argument works!
