3.0d temp struggles

Hi guys, been having a problem for some time with my 2006 3.0d, it won't reach a proper operating temperature. I have replaced the thermostat twice with BMW items, this engine does 'NOT' have an egr thermostat. I have been told this is likely to be a faulty autobox cooler failure. I don't have oil in water or water in oil, no other symptoms other than temp takes forever to get to 65 then that's where it stays unless I go uphill and downhill it plumits.

If it is the autobox cooler are these easy to swap out, does the auto fluid need anything doing to it or just plug and play. Thanks guys
