Arrow 2013 X3 28i Confirmed With N20 Engine, Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Admin/Mod Update:
Quote:
New engine for X3 xDrive 28i
From April 2012 on (MY2013 switchover month for US), the X3 28i will get the new 2.0L 240hp N20 inline 4 engine, replacing the naturally aspirated inline 6 found in in the X3 28i through March 2012 production.

New options
The X3 then also gets some new options just introduced for the all-new F30 3 series, namely the speed limit info (8TH) and the lane departure warning (5AD). Interestingly however, lane change assist is still not available.

First of all hats off to a great forum.

I have to admit I am one of these lurkers on this forum, and I have been for quite some time now.
To be more precise ever since I became a proud BMW X1 owner. Now I am waiting for my X3 to be delivered in late February early March.

So a couple of days I found something that may be of interest to the rest of the forum

New pricelist valid from April 2012 (admin note: MY2013 X3 begins in US starting April)

Very interesting. Looks like lane departure warning has arrived as expected. I've copied and pasted and Google translated...

Also interesting that they both aren’t compatible with the cc windscreen suggesting that both display something on the windscreen a la HUD?

The missing compatiblity has probably something to do with the camera systems that sits where the rain sensor sits. The coloured windscreen can't be used with it.

"Speed Limit Info inkl. Überholverbotsanzeige" means "Speed Limit Info including overtaking display"

What is overtaking display?

I agree and absolutely no idea!

Thank you for posting. As far as I know, this is the first official confirmation of the N20 appearing the X3 28i.

Makes good sense, since it was already reported that MY 2012 X3 production ends in March.

http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560874

I've used the menu at the top of this thread to nominate it for appearance on the front page. But without more votes, it probably won't make it. That would be a shame since, as the post above by obtix shows, some folks may not be aware of this impending change. And now that it is confirmed, people may want to consider either waiting for MY2013 to make their purchase, or hurry and get a MY2012 if they prefer the N52 over the N20.

It's "indication" vice display. I think they're talking indicator of a car coming through what too many Americans seem to think is a blind spot.

I think everybody expected this to come sooner rather than later.

I for one am perfectly satisfied with the inline-6 goodness in the 2012 however, no disappointment here.

I'd be happy to be able to tow with your car, with a class 3 hitch rating.
The 2.0t isn't towing anything.

8TH is not a US-spec option, correct?

Photos show two different services.

BMW online is available in the USA with convenience plan.

BMW Internet browser is currently not available in the USA, but as technic shows in his teaser post it can be retrofitted to USA cars. Speak with bimmertech.

"Speed Limit Info inkl. Überholverbotsanzeige" means "Speed Limit Info including overtaking display"

What is overtaking display?
For the first time BMW ConnectedDrive is supplying a no overtaking display as part of this function for the new BMW 3 Series. Any overtaking ban detected or speed limit is displayed on the instrument panel or optionally in the BMW Head-Up Display in the form of a traffic sign until the restrictions is changed or lifted. The system stores all the data temporarily so that when you resume your journey after a short break, the speed and overtaking ban signs that were last valid are immediately displayed again.

Maybe it looks at road lane markings. Double center lines ?
