2.0D X-Drive potential problem
Hi folks, new on here on behalf of my father who has just bought a 2.0D X-Drive which by all accounts is very nice car. However a couple of days after getting it home he noticed something strange gearbox wise when giving power in 2nd/3rd gear. He says it is like one of the axles is slipping.
As we are both new to BMW's thought here would be the first place to see if anyone has any ideas. Many thanks in advance for any help Mark |

I've not seen anything similar reported but there aren't as many manuals as there are automatics. I would take it back to the dealer and ask them to investigate. Shouldn't be happening.

Many thanks for your great advice guys. My father has taken it back to the dealer. One of their mechanics has had a run in it and noticed the problem so hopefully it they will work it out and get it fixed.
I will give an update on here as it may help someone else in the future. Incidently the car has a high millage 80,000 for its age. I am looking forward to gettting a blast in it when it is fixed!!!!! |

I was thinking the same. 80,000 miles would be a lot in less than a year May be worth re-posting this in the first gen forum. I was assuming it was covered by warranty when I said take it a dealer. You may want to take somewhere else

Please let us know if this is a E83 or a F25. If it is a F25, it probably holds the mileage record for a non-factory owned new X3. Good Luck. |

80,000 would average out at about 400 miles per day since the first F25 X3s arrived in the UK.

80,000 miles @ £1.40/L and average 40 mpg => £12,729 ($20,294) - ouch

Ah, posted in the wrong thread it seems. This is what happens when you have an Audi UrS6 owner trying to make sense to others in a BMW Forum. Sorry about this.

Ahhhh think this one is now to bed. As I say my old man put it back straight away, now he has it back "fixed". It seems someone replaced the front tyres which were the wrong size. He can't believe he did not check that himself but is happy it has cured it. He has got a couple of free tyres and service out of it at least so all is well. Many thanks again for your help with this one and sorry again for not having a clue how the site works, Audi drivers eh?!!!
Cheers |

A fair few ex-Audi drivers in this forum. My last two motors were an A5 Coupe and an A3 Sportback. Have been v impressed at how the guys in this X3 group have pretty much avoided the fanboy mentality. There's a lot of respect for the looks of the Q5, for example, even though we know we all made a much better overall choice with the new X3
