BMW X3 display in China shows Lane Departure Warning and Active Cruise Control
Came across a YouTube video today which highlights the BMW X3 display. At approx 10:20 in the video it shows a closeup of the display with Lane Departure Warning and Active Cruise Control markings (although not actually lit).
If I understand it correctly, the X3 doesn't have these features, in my country anyway. Can this be something to come in near future models of the X3, e.g. 2012 model iteration? Maybe China is the first country to have these as an option. Any comments on this? Last edited by kolien; 05-11-2011 at 03:58 PM.. Reason: Changed youtube link |

The same display is in my X3 too. I'm guessing it is an easy thing to add to 2012 models - this way there's going to be a growth path. I'm disappointed I did not have the option of getting these but I also understand that it's a matter of personal preference as they don't always work for all drivers.

I have this in my display as well & wondered what it was. Obviously not active on my X3 (Canada), but now I know for certain what it is!

It is the same in 5 series also. But in there we have the option to actually get those features delivered with the car. I hope that this is something BMW will add as soon as possible as more and more car brands are adding this kind of high tech features these days.

I've seen dashes in the U.S. with this as well but no lane departure here either.

Aww gosh mandarin, if only they spoke in cantonese I could understand what they're saying at 10:20. I have this on my car also (35i + nav) but it never lights up. Lane departure would be a nice feature but basically it's main feature is to alert drivers than they're sleepy and swerving out of their lanes right?

This is a video magazine from Taiwan. Basically wht the guy's saying at 10:20 is wht we've said here already - the markings are probably there for future use.

Active cruise (using laser) is a big chunk of cash (US $2,500) and requires some expensive rejigging of the car's electronics. It's a great addition but very expensive when you compare it to the base price of the vehicle.

Any news regarding this?
I saw a BMW X3 pricelist a few days ago at a BMW dealer here in Norway. This was a future pricelist to be announced in January 2012.
This actually had Lane Departure Warning as an option. The price was not avaliable at that time. The salesman couldn't tell me anything about this 'cause he didn't know anything. Have anyone heard the same? That LDW will be avaliable in just a few months? Any news regarding the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go? |

I have my car on order, soon to be delivered in January having waited for 9 month already. I wonder what they will charge for the these options. I checked the F10/F11 list and it was relatively expensive equipment. I will hear with my car dealer to see what he has to say. It may be too late to change the order anyway. |

LDW viabrates the steering wheel when you begin to wander off your curernt lane. A big improvement would be to spray the driver with cold water..
How about a flux capacitor and an improved headlight fluid reservoir as an option for 2012?? |
