I wouldn't say it's more difficult, but it's different. For plastidip it seems like you have to tape off a lot of the car before prepping. Then giving 5 coats of spray (takes a good part of the day out).

For vinyl wrapping, it's basically the same as applying a screen protector to an iPhone screen. You take the cross-section of the vinyl and place it, say, over the hood and then peel off the backing to expose to sticking side. Some vinyl's come with pressure-activated adherence, some are sticky to begin with, but both require some heat-gun (read: blow-dryer) to soften the vinyl so you can press it down smoothly and get air-bubbles out. That's about it. Just a big sticker process

For those who like glossy finishes check this out. After using the matte black spray you can spray the Glossifier stuff on, I think it looks great.

Also, if you like grey they offer this Metalizer stuff which adds gunmetal grey finish to it. You spray it on top of the matte black finish:

^ that's exactly the kit I ordered. I figure I would put the matte down and decide whether or not I want the gloss. (probably will)

I'll also do my front grills to match

^ Show pics when complete. I'm sure it will look great. I wonder if that clear coat gives it any extra protection?

Do you have any links to places that sell the pressure-activated adherence vinyl? It seems like this would be much easier to install than the vinyl that is already sticky..

To my knowledge, you can find it with vinyls on eBay. But if you really don't care for finding it there (possibly time consuming?) there is 3M 1080 vinyl. It basically is a piece of paper that you can glide around the surface until you like the spot, then press it down. Expensive stuff though. You have been warned.

I will post up a step by step and perhaps video. I'm sure that the clear will provide a bit more protection as it's more layers going on. Seems logical.

The "air-release" technology sounds like it would make a big difference during installation though.

This place has some pretty good prices for the 3M 1080 vinyl if you go with a matte finish:

Apparently some folks over on the Lexus forums did their exhaust tips in matte black without any issues.

I don't know if I would use it for that. I sprayed my muffler with high temp flat black and it looks great. I don't think this (plastidip) would hold up very well.
