Dealer fit reversing camera?

Took delivery of my new X3 this week and was gutted to be told (as I was being handed the keys!) that the reversing camera I ordered had been 'missed' off the build...

But the reversing camera is shown in the accessories brochure, so can apparently be dealer fitted?

However the dealer is telling me that the necessary parts are not available...

I'm suspicious...

Does anyone on here know any more or could find out any more?

Oh BTW, this is the simple single rear camera, not 'top view'.

Thanks, Guy

It is available, in Germany at least.
Try P/N 66 21 2 183 723 & 66 53 9 249 462.
Prerequisite is to have PDC fitted.

Thanks, yes the car has PDC so hopefully it can be done.

I will give these part numbers to the dealer - it's crazy that we have to do the work that they should be doing - but if I want the problem sorted out....

Sorry to hear of your problem, but I will be interested to hear how you get on - I didn't spec. the rear camera but have an idea that maybe I should have!

Please update when you can, thanks.

I've just emailed the part number to the supplying dealer - hopefully this is one less excuse they can use..

I've also written to BMW UK complaining about this mess up, asking for a resolution.

I thought my 7 month sentence had ended this week, but it seems the wait continues..

I'll update as soon as I get any reply............

Sorry to hear about this dealer f*** up.
My car is due 2nd week August, i have started wondering what they may have missed out on mine, as you see by my signature i've not missed much options out. After nearly 8 months i think if anything is missing it will be re-order another, as i would'nt be happy knowing it was not what i ordered..
Here is the link for www.realOEM.com, retrofit camera with pdc and pro media

Well I don't want to worry you more, but I only had 4 options (towbar, bluetooth, wood and camera) and they couldn't get that right!

Thanks for the link, I'd not found that one, but slightly worrying that it says pro nav is also required (along with PDC) and my cars not got that..

Still not heard back from the dealer yet...

Don't worry, as camera is an option from factory even for cars w/o nav, it will be available later on for both versions, either from factory or aftermkt using a hack.

i have heard that there are many car mfg'ers that are missing back up cameras because the primary source of the IC to control it comes out of a manufacturer in Japan whose factory was hit hard. When I was shopping the X3 against the Q5 the Audi dealer told me the 12's would have all of the infrastructure for a rear camera including the rear lens but no electronics because of this.

I wouldn't have picked it up. I would have asked them to re-order the car and build a new one.

And waited 10 more months?!?! I'm not sure I'd want the camera that much

Any updates?

I wonder if I can retrofit reverse camera if I have the smaller screen iDrive (6.5")

No update yet, but the dealer is still trying to work out a way of retrofitting my camera.

My purchase contract for the car included the reversing camera, so they either have to fit it to the existing car, or replace the whole car..

As soon as I know any more, I'll update this post.

While you're at it (if they replace the car) demand more options for the same price. Drive this X3 until the new one comes. You're hardly ever going in reverse.

Had a call from the dealer today, apparently the wiring loom and some ECU's are totally different on cars without reverse camera (and no nav), it is not practical to retro-fit this option.

So I will have to hope the dealer keeps his word about replacing the car at the end of the year and wait until then.

Unfortunately the car is used 'in reverse' daily, as it was bought to tow trailers, it's a pig to hitch up without a camera, visibility is very poor to the centre rear, very easy to over-run and damage the rear bumper on the trailer hitch.

As for demanding more options, I really don't want any! Just more to go wrong IMO...
