Moonroof issues?

Hi folks.

Have trouble with my moonroof.

When it's tilted and I try to close it, it closes and then tilts back. Just occasionally it closes as expected.

The same happens when it's fully opened...

Anyway to reset it?

Yes. I was having similar issues in my X5. Just press the button up like your going to tilt the roof, but keep the button pressed. Let the whole thing cycle completely before releasing the button. The sun shade will open and close, it will tilt and close, open fully and close and then the sunshade will open and close again. That completes the cycle and resets the system. Hopefully that will fix your issue. It did mine.

Did resetting it like I described fix your issue then?

I have a similar problem, but it only happens with temperature >95+F/35+C. Hope it happens this summer so the dealer can take a look at it.

Lol. It amuses me that some nations calls it a moonroof while the other calls it a sunroof.

Maybe it says something about what users stick through the roof when it's open!

Strange term. I think it may have emerged here at that time when the glass version of the older, solid sunroof became available. I don't at all get what connection the glass version has to the moonlight over sunlight, though.

Didn't work in the X3, at least in mine. Is there a different way in the new X3.

That's a bummer man. I don't know. I'd call the dealer and ask them.

A moonroof is a type of sunroof. It was coined in the 70's by Ford (making it a USA centric term?). Any glass panel sunroof is a moonroof. Solid panels are just sunroofs.

The only thing I can think of is too make sure no debris is in the way of the sensor. Doesn't the manual have a procedure to reset the moonroof sliding action? Maybe this will help the tilt action too.

Was just thinking the first time I thought I heard it refered to as a moonroof was the Lincoln Mark series in the 70's.

Maybe with the tinted glass portion closed; it should be refered to as the "Eclipseroof".

Actually I got it. Hold the button for 15sec and then hold for about 45sec more. It initialized and hopefully problem solved

What is difference between this and just holding the button for 60sec or more?

Press and hold for about a minute works!

I had a similar problem. The glass panel worked fine but the shade would close fully and then open back out about 5 inches. I could never fully close it! I was going to take it to the dealer as i thought the anti trap sensor was faulty (if such a thing exists!) but could never find the time for such a triviality.

The fix works. Just push the roof button up and hold. After what seemed less than a minute all roof functions operate and eventually settle in the correct close position. Strange thing was the Components of the roof didn't cycle in the logical order. At one point the shade was fully shut whilst I could hear the glass panel moving about! All is well now...

Thanks for providing the fix!

Cheers,
The Sock

I thought something would happen immediately. I didn't have the patience to wait more than 10-12 seconds the first time.

I figured I'd give it another go, and from 15 seconds things started to happen.

I didn't know there was a "reset" then. I sold the car after two years.
