Manual box, little nag: getaway
I've now done 2500 miles, and I'm 98% happy with the gearbox -- the fact the regime change varies with the 'mode' the car is in, and that the output power is proportional to the "will" I put in the accelerator is pretty amazing and very fun.
I tried a few 'hot rod' starts and it's really amazing, I barely have time to change gear in sport mode before I reach 4k rpm, and that thing /pulls/, even the lowly 20d :-) *however* I have a nag. I can't seem to get a clean, soft, smooth getaway from 0mph in first gear. If I gently lift the clutch and gently add power, the best I can get is a bit of a jerky "hesitation" for a second or so before it stabilizes. Of course I tried a lot of 'variations', and I've driven many, many manual boxes/clutches before and usually I get the sweet spot in a matter of minutes... Now If I release the clutch gently by itself, I can hear the engine rev up a notch, the car gets to like 3mph, and then I can accelerate but there'll still be a 'hit', it won't be smooth. That clutch behavior is nice in traffic, but still I can't manage a 'smooth' start, and after 2500 miles, I would have assumed it would have bedded in by now... So anyone has a tip? is it software throwing my instincts out if kilter ?

Interesting, that CDV story. That might explain some of the behaviour when shifting quickly -- typically in sport mode, there is a 'jerkiness' when accelerating quickly and changing the gears as fast as I can...
However I can't find a trace of the CDV for the F25 -- perhaps it's been integrated into another component, and is no longer 'fixable'? BTW I'm getting a /bit/ better with the clutch, but after 6500 miles, I find it still very very hard to make a true, clean and smooth getaway.

Item 11 on the diagram below. I did mine on the 130i with some friends. One of them simply punched the middle out then re-fitted it. Transformed the car and made it much easier to drive.

The valve was cheap so I got one anyway - top pic shows the bits which come out when you hit it. I think it was a 10mm Allen Key
