Tire/Wheel Insurance Question?

I just got a 2014 X3 28i M-Sport from out of state dealer.
I asked the Finance guy about wheel/tire protection he quoted me $1229(after taxes) for 5yr with $50 deductibles is this right?

My coworker who has a 2011 bmw 335 M-Sport paid $1200 with no deductibles

That is correct. BMW does not offer no deductible wheel/tire protection anymore. It is now a $50 deductible. $1,200 is what I paid for that plan back in 2011.

There was a 3rd party offer for wheel/ tire protection with added curb rash protection. It was much more expensive and IMO, not needed.

I paid something similar for my 2015 310s. Can someone comment on what is exactly covered? I may have had a run in with a curb.

Yep that's correct. $50 deductible and about 1229 is right. My 2011 was a little cheaper with no deductible. I have the 2014 x3 35i M sport with 19s. So $50 a tire is still not paid. As long as I use it!

Read your policy, it may not cover curb rashes.

BMW wheel and tire insurance does not cover curb rash.
In the past, if the TPM indicator lite up and it was determined there was a puncture (not a pressure change due to changes in the season etc.), my SP would just swap out the whole thing, wheel and tire. Now they just replace the tire on the existing rim as long as it can hold pressure, rashes or not. It was probably getting expensive for them thus now the increase in price, deductible and not swapping out the entire thing.
If you had any serious amount of mileage on a staggered set-up, and you lost one, you pretty much had to buy the second tire not to cause alignment issues. Who wants to drive around with one new rear tire and the second one with 15k miles on it?

Good to know thanks kozzi!

I've read of Dealerships scratching up rims and then denying it.

What dealership you go to for service?

Here in UK it also changed last year, it was £300 for 3 years with no deductions, the latest policy has a 50% charge if less than 6mm tread remaining..still covers up to 5 tyres and winter tyres if used.

All tires, including Winters must be BMW star approved. Verify before buying. I guess the winter wheel must also be bmw.

Will insurance transfer over if I buy new BMW wheels?
Like lets say the 19's wheels found in the 2015 X3 M-Sport or the 20's

Buying tire warranty from BMW is retarded! If you're in the US, you should know that any Discount Tire Shop will sell you warranty for $34 per tire and that covers the tire for 5 years or 50,000 miles. I've owned two BMW's and going to Discount Tire was the first thing I did after walking out of the dealership. This insurance is the best thing you can do for any car. Not only that, but in my case, I had a blowout recently and was very far away from a Discount Tire. I ended up having the tire replaced by a BMW dealership and then took the receipt from BMW and got reimbursed the price of the Tire! No questions asked.
Then I turned around and got a new warranty on that new tire BMW put in. It's a no brainer! Also, Discount Tire will send you e-mail reminders every 6 months to go get your tires balanced and rotated, for free!

I called Safe-Guard and they said they'll cover any tire you have on it, maybe this is the new policy with the $50 deductible not sure? But I do see it list OEM equipment on the contract.

I do understand BMW Insurance might not be worth for some, but for us living in pothole city like (NYC) harsh winters 19-20" wheels its better to be safe than sorry. Bent/Cracked rims are very common here too.

BMW should have a higher price tire and wheel policy just for the New York City area

Actually, NYC should have free claims without deductibles because with the amount of taxes we pay here for breathing and not having fixed highways its sad. Pay more = potholes everywhere, pay less = nice roads it seems.

So I guess I'd have to look for a OEM better Ultra-High-Performance tire since I dont think my aunt has space for me to store my Goodyear until spring if i wanted to put Dedicated Winter tires

Good luck to you if you want the NY government to pay for a flat tire or bent rim, cannot even get that here in MA. Also, are you still under the illusion that your tax dollars are going toward fixing the road?

On a recent X3 purchase, I was quoted $2295 for the tire and wheel insurance package by a NJ-based dealer. Five years, $50 deductible.

That was the "special deal" marked down from $2595. Needless to say, I passed.
