ECS / Foxwell Scan Tool - Used Car Check
Gurus,
We're in the process of shopping for a used X3, most likely F25 chassis. As a longtime VAG-com user from the dark side, I managed to get my hands on the ECS version of the Foxwell scan tool for BMW. I saw the Carly app, but decided to go for a cable-based reader instead. That said, the Carly app advertises a "used car check" functionality that appears to query various ECUs for the recorded mileage and other usage data. It appears to flag any significant differences (e.g. dash shows 25k miles, but the engine ECU reads 40k, etc) I'm guessing I can do the same with the Foxwell tool. Can anyone confirm this, as well as point me to the relevant ECUs that I should be checking for mileage differentials? TIA, GG |

So, I had a friend run the Carly app on his manual transmission 3-series. The data is interesting - you can see where the VIN (removed here...) has been stored to the ignition, lights, and engine - I'm thinking an automatic tranny would have also been listed, had the car been so equipped:
VIN from ignition: xxxxx VIN from lights: xxxxx VIN from engine: xxxxxx Mileage from ignition: 153598.00 km Last saved Mileage from lights: 150764.00 km Last saved Mileage A from utility: 153504.00 km Last saved Mileage B from utility: This data is not available in your car. Last saved Mileage A from control: This data is not available in your car. Last saved Mileage B from control: This data is not available in your car. Last saved Mileage C from control: This data is not available in your car. Last saved Mileage B from engine: 153590.00 km Operating hours from lights: 2881.45 h Average Speed: 53.31 km/h Build-Date from engine: 24.11.2009 When I called out the differential between the ignition (which I'm guess is the mileage on the dashboard) and the lights, my friend mentioned that he'd indeed had the lights replaced via a recall. Now, off to test with the ECS unit... GG |
