Gearbox Issues

Lately me and my dad have noticed that our X3 doesn't get up and go like it used to. When we press the gas, the car tries to keep the revs below 2,500 and you have to press the pedal about 5/8 of the way for the car to downshift. It feels very sluggish and VERY reluctant to downshift. Anybody else having the same problem and how can we get the transmission to downshift sooner?

We have a 2012 X3 28i naturally aspirated inline 6 so turbo lag is no issue. Once the car downshifts to over 4,000 it revs freely and is quick to downshift

I would see if there is a software update that can be applied. It often corrects issues as you mentioned.

Put it into "manual" and shift the gears. Does it still respond?

How many miles? Over 50,000 miles? Have you checked the intake air filter ? Have you changed the spark plugs yet? What about the oil level, is it low? Do you have sport package or ability to put it in manual mode and shift yourself to see if it picks up the way you remember ? If you baby the car, it remembers your style of driving. If you floor it, it reacts quicker an may hold shifts longer. Did you also change your key fob to the second set?

Our is just shy of 30,000 thousand miles and just had a routine inspection a few months ago. I normally have it in manual shift mode because thats the easiest way to get it to do what I want. Either that or sport mode. I'm 18 so I floor it a lot but my dad babies it

Well with that low of miles , I don't think it's a maintenance issue. And you mentioned its a 6 cyl non turbo so it rules out a lot of other things. You did not mention whether it not you are using his key profile or the second set key profile. Some people have said that it remembers your driving style and as well as mirror position , seat position , etc. I am not sure about it as I always use just one set. Use the second set and see if it starts improving after a few fast accelerations. I do notice that after a few fast runs to redline that the car tends to hold the shift even after backing off of the gas pedal, expecting I will get back on it. This is in S mode, not full manual M mode. Also, if you want to accelerate fast , there is always the kickdown button. Press the accelerator all the way to the floor and you will feel a click. It will take the transmission to the lowest gear possible before redline.

Here is what I was thinking about. If you also want to reset adaptations of the throttle/pedal.

We only use one set. And we don't really like redlining it. What we really want is when you accelerate while you're in motion for it to kick down to 3-4.5k rpm. Right now it just stays at 2.5 and tries to pull the car from there. Good idea with the second set
